knot knormal Posted August 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2018 We are on Ruby Princess next month and have around $250 OBC. Can this be used for the daily gratuities?

WisCruiser2 Posted August 28, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Yes, in fact Princess will automatically subtract the daily gratuity along with any other charges incurred for the day from your OBC (non-refundable first, then refundable). Pam in CA Posted August 28, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Your onboard folio is a simple credit/debit system. If you start with a credit (OBC from any source), anything charged to your folio, including daily gratuities, drinks, specialty restaurants, tours, t-shirts, etc., is deducted from the credit until there’s a balance due. diverward Posted August 28, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Thank you ! We are just trying to determine whether to pay in advance in Canadian or , on board in US funds This all depends on when you booked your cruise. If you booked it when the rate was 20% of the US rate then all OBC that you buy beforehand will be 20%, e.g. US$100.00 will cost you CDN$120.00. If it was at 25% then all OBC will be charged at 25% of the US$. This includes all gratuities. The cruise rate right now is 30% of US rate. My cruise for October was booked at 20% and that is why we have bought OBC to use on board and this was only at the 20% rate whereas the present bank rate is around 33 - 34% on the market. Hope this helps you. Have a great cruise.

In the unlikely event there are some of these credits remaining, how would the refund be handled, or do they have to be used in full on board? Under $25, you can get it at the Purser's desk before leaving the ship. Otherwise, they will send a check to you several weeks after the cruise. (I do not know what currency the check will be in when sent to Canada, but if in Canadian $, it will likely be at the more current currency exchange rate.) (I do not know what currency the check will be in when sent to Canada, but if in Canadian $, it will likely be at the more current currency exchange rate.) Good morning, even though we paid Canadian dollars to buy the OBC, the check coming back to us will be in US$. It has happened a couple of times. Takes about 3-4 weeks to come back. So we deposit this back into our US$ account and the next time we are in the US we use the US$ credit card and pay off the credit card from the US$ account. Or alternatively the bank will convert the US$ into $CDN dollars at the current rate. Whichever way it is still a little beneficial to us. Have a good day. Two months to go for us on the Sapphire. Hoosier-Cruiser Posted August 29, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2018 Another tip. If you see that you will have a surplus at the end of the cruise, you can go into the casino the last day and charge your room for chips or slot credit. Then, you can cash it out at the casino desk for cash. Some people will say to play a little or they may lock your card from casino charging. On the last day, this doesn't really matter too much though.
museumedgirl Posted August 29, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 29, 2018 We received onboard credit but also specialty dining for two when we booked through our TA. When I tried to make reservations for dinner on the website- it says that my reservation is not confirmed until it is paid. So my question is- do we go ahead and pay for the specialty dining and then they will take that off our bill at the end of the cruise? Is this also how OBC works with excursions and spa treatments? Thanks! First time cruising with promotions!!

Thanks! First time cruising with promotions!! Specialty restaurant meals from a TA or as part of a Princess promotion can only be booked once on board. If you reserve and pay in advance, you cannot switch that to your "free" voucher. OBC that is listed in the cruise personalizer can be used pre-cruise to book shore excursions. It cannot be used for spa appointments before embarkation.
