Katiedolewhip Posted October 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2018 I’m going on my first cruise in January on the Ruby princess and I’m wondering if I should bring my blow dryer? I know that each cabin has one but I usually find hotel hair dryers to be terrible and am wondering if that is what I should expect? Any advice from those with experience would be helpful. cheeseclan Posted October 2, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2018 If you don’t like hotel dryers then you won’t like the ones on most of the ships. Bring your own!
OR_Cowboy_1952 Posted October 2, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2018 If you don’t like hotel dryers then you won’t like the ones on most of the ships. Bring your own! But don’t leave it plugged in and don’t test the GFI on the cord. Don’t try to plug it into the ‘razor’ outlet in the bathroom. It draws too much current. culvercitycruiser Posted October 2, 2018 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2018 If you have more than three hairs on your head, then you need to bring your own dryer. It is the same as a hotel dryer. Not good
Pam in CA Posted October 2, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Never had a problem using the hair dryer. I find it adequate and have never brought my own on over fifty cruises.
moki'smommy Posted October 2, 2018 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2018 It is a typical hotel dryer. Worked fine for me. Since I try to travel with just a carry on, a dryer would take a huge amount of my space. Never found it worthwhile to bring one.
Coffeeluvr05 Posted October 2, 2018 #8 Share Posted October 2, 2018 If you can swing it, bring your own. It’s a test of patience drying you hair with the ship blow dryer. It’s doable but if you have thick hair, plan on extra time to get ready. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Luvtennis6060 Posted October 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Take your own, it takes forever to dry your hair with the provided dryers. I have thick hair and I have spent up to 30 minutes trying to get my hair dry. I now take my own. Sent from my iPad using Forums
satxdiver Posted October 2, 2018 #10 Share Posted October 2, 2018 The only problem is to not use it in the bathroom. The outlet is low fused and you will probably trip the breaker. As I recall it is rated for 3 amps. You will most likely have to use it in the stateroom outlet.
floridalover5623 Posted October 2, 2018 #11 Share Posted October 2, 2018 It's not to strong but it does dry bathing suits, underwear & socks hanging on the chair back if you leave it on long enough.

Diver2014 Posted October 2, 2018 #13 Share Posted October 2, 2018 I have a very small but powerful dryer that always stays in my toiletry bag. The hair dryers on the ships are weak plus they are usually permanently attached to the cabinet in the desk. As everyone has said, do not plug any appliances into the bathroom socket except a shaver. #1Nanna Posted October 2, 2018 #14 Share Posted October 2, 2018 I never bring my own to save packing space. I have long hair and always use the ships hair dryer. I have found, although it is not extremely powerful, it works fine. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Eagle_and_hawk Posted October 2, 2018 #15 Share Posted October 2, 2018 This is a picture of what we have typically found in our last several rooms. Seems to have been desiged for hotel rooms & made by Jerdon. Description says two speed / two heat settings, 1200 watts. My bride says's it works OK, just not as powerful as her dryer at home that is more the pistol shape with higher air flow. 1965 Posted October 2, 2018 #18 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Like a few others, I travel with a carry on & personal item only. No room for a hair dryer. The ship's dryer is certainly not as good as my own dryer, but it is adequate. I allow a few minutes longer to dry my hair when onboard. mevs904 Posted October 2, 2018 #19 Share Posted October 2, 2018 For anyone who uses a hairdryer to style their hair as well as dry it the ship’s dryers are woefully inadequate. I always bring mt dryer except when we cruise Disney. Their hair dryers are excellent. (Except maybe for the Wonder).
AZ Karaoke Girl Posted October 2, 2018 #20 Share Posted October 2, 2018 I don't see any mention of the need to hold the button down like on all my other cruises. Does Princess dryers not require you to hold down the button while drying? That is my biggest gripe with the room dryers.

Kartgv Posted October 3, 2018 #23 Share Posted October 3, 2018 No, you don't need to hold the button down on Princess hair dryers. On our last cruise on the Golden, the cabin hair dryer suddenly wouldn't work on about the 3rd evening - it was a very bad hair night! Later that night our room steward brought me a portable one that worked great.
floridalover5623 Posted October 3, 2018 #24 Share Posted October 3, 2018 The hair dryer buttons on the newer ships (Regal, Royal) have to be held but the ones on the older ships don't. I used some blue painters tape to hold the button when drying clothes. You can remove & reuse it a few times.
AZ Karaoke Girl Posted October 3, 2018 #25 Share Posted October 3, 2018 Thanks everyone. Now I can unpack my hair dryer cuz I don’t mind the ship dryers but holding the button down for 10 minutes is the pits.
