Which Nieuw Amsterdam Inside Cabin Would you choose?

Just wondering if the experts could give me an indication which cabin to choose. 

 

J cabins  148 sq feet

First off, the J-category cabins on Main Deck (1000 series) are not 148 sq. ft. They are large like the K-cabins further back (1100 series), which I am sure are larger than the 171 sq. ft. you quoted. I know they are larger than the 186 sq. ft. insides on the S- & R-class ships.

Personally, I prefer the J-category, closer to mid-ship, starboard side. I like that it splits the difference on the long ship, so every once in a while it isn't as long a hike to where I want to go; the K-cabins are too far from where I am more often. But which of the two locations is merely preference.

Closer to mid-ship, and down low on Main Deck, also makes for a smoother ride.

One of the considerations for the J-cabins is what is going on above, which is another reason to be closer to mid-ship (anything from about half-way down that passageway to mid-ship is fine), as it gets you away from the Casino and Billboard.
Although BB King's is over that area, the bandstand is on portside; there are about 3-4 inside cabins on port which hear every note, so it's better to stay away from that area and not take your chances.

The K-cabins are under the dining room, so are quiet.

Are you sure the I-cabin 5074 is 185 sq. ft.? I know there are some huge I-category cabins, but I thought they were higher up. I don't know much about them except that they are slightly larger than the insides on Main Deck.

Any of the cabins on Main deck, they are far larger than any other inside cabins and most OV cabins.  Avoid the cabin on deck 5.  Personally I have spent 24 days in K1116 on Nieuw Amsterdam, and 14 days in the same cabin on Westerdam (which is why I chose the cabin on Nieuw Amsterdam).  I see Ruth C has replied, probably saying the same thing...EM

We had J1064 for 32 days this spring and loved the size of the cabin.  We could hear some music but it didn't bother us.  The future cruise person has J1058 since it's under the drums. I would definitely book this cabin again or it's neighbor 1068.

We prefer the 'special' K cabins on Main deck. Nice and quiet, not much foot traffic either.

I was in 1058 for a 24 night cruise with 3 kids. I would definitely choose it again. I measured it as about 200 sq ft. Out of the ones you list, I would choose 1064 or 1116. 1064 is closer to midship. Many of the others are connecting cabins and may be noisier.

Our DD and DSIL were in 1054 and were right underneath the BB King Blues Club.  It was so loud, they couldn't hear their television at night.  After several complaints, they were moved to a much smaller inside cabin on a higher deck where at least it was quiet.

Not in my experience. I've been in several connecting cabins on Main Deck on the Vista/Signature ships. The only time I heard anything was when the woman next door was having a screaming meltdown. I'm sure I would have heard it through a solid wall; it had nothing to do with the doors.

My husband and I were in 1073 and it was very quiet.  We never heard anything through the connecting door and the location was great.

I don't know when you are sailing --- but all I can say is DO NOT book an interior cabin.  They do not look anything like the HAL Website.  These are cramped cabins.  Everyone on our Nov 2018 sailing who had interior cabins were complaining & trying to get a cabin change to an OV.  Luckily since we had a 51 day Cruise booked for following year - HAL did upgrade us to a fully obstructed OV Cabin.  Thank God!   Many 1st HAL timers who had gone interior -- said they would never sail HAL again because of the size of their cabin.

Those J and K category staterooms on main deck are huge. At least 25% larger than the ocean views.

I should add, only on Vista and Signature class ships.

We were in an interior cabin for 21 days on the Koningsdam.  It was fine.  it wasn't "cramped."  It was nice.  And it was our first HAL cruise.

Furthermore, it was far superior to the inside cabin we had on MSC's Meraviglia (which was the cruise we took right after that one).  There was way more storage space and it was way more comfortable.

Isn't the NA very similar to Koningsdam?  Insides are just fine.

I just spent 7 days in 1116 on the NA, and it was plenty roomy.

Not personally having been on the Koningsdam I cannot speak first hand.  But, the other HAL passengers told us that the interior cabins on the Nieuw Amsterdam were the smallest they had seen on any other HAL ship.

The Koningsdam is one of HAL's Pinnacle Class Ships - the Nieuw Amsterdam is in their  Signature Class ships.

I stand corrected. I get the "Nieuw" ships mixed up.  

So, neither one of us actually knows what we're talking about. You seem to have never been in an inside cabin on that ship nor have I.

Honestly, I think there are just people who don't like inside cabins, value lots of space, and are willing to pay a good deal of money to avoid that.  My husband and I aren't those people. We don't care most of the time. The biggest inside cabin we've ever had in terms of sheer floor space was the worst one (MSC Meraviglia).  Just RVs, space isn't the biggest issue. It's how the space is utilized that matters.

If it means anything, we've done 8 cruises (three different cruise lines). Two of those were in OV cabins, but those cabins were identical to insides on the same ship, except for the window.  We have NEVER had a sofa in the room, ever.   We were pretty happy with all them except the one I mentioned above, and even it was more or less livable (it had a serious lack of storage space and due to that we lived out of our suitcases for a week, and couldn't unpack anything).

I have been in the J Cabins and they look like they are over 200 square feet.  They are big rooms!

We've been on 93 cruises - almost all Cruise lines.  But never the MSC

Yes I was in an interior Cabin on Nieuw Amsterdam.  It was towards the back of the ship I believe 2nd deck from bottom & it was tiny.

I've done interior cabins on other cruise lines - this was the smallest cabin I've seen.

You are getting other input though & it sounds like interior cabins in other locations on the Nieuw Amsterdam are larger.

There was plenty of storage.  The closets were actually at the end of an interior hallway you have in the cabin that leads to the bathroom.  One on the back wall & the other facing it.  A little cramped but plenty of storage in it.

Instead of a couch it had two ottomans & a small table near the door opposite foot of bed.

The ottoman's had lids that opened to give you more storage.

 

Anyway - just heads up so you won't be surprised if you find your interior cabin smaller than you liking.

If you check with front desk ASAP & are interested --- if you don't like the interior cabin you may be able to pay a very small fee for an upgrade.

 

Any cruise - no matter what -- is a FUN one -- Right??

Which ship are you considering?  On the Vista and Signature Class, the J and K on the Main Deck are very good, just be sure to check the Deck Plan so you know what is above you.  They are very roomy staterooms.  We have also resided in a Cat I on the Navigation Deck that were roomy, had a couch and were quiet.  Happy cruising!

Why would you avoid the cabin on deck 5?  I currently have that cabin booked.
