The Upgrade Fairy is Alive and Well!

Got an email today that we got a complimentary upgrade from a PV2 to a PS3! Our cruise leaves in two weeks and is full. I guess they needed our stateroom. I surprised they didn't try and upsell or does Viking not do that?

Congratulations! We got upgraded from a DV2 to a PS1 back in January and the best part was the complimentary laundry service. We spent the week after the cruise in Barcelona and Ireland and had all of our clothes laundered before we left the boat so we had clean clothes for the next week.

Pretty Please Viking....we are scheduled for the Caribbean to Amazon in November...what a surprise and early Christmas gift it would make!!!  and I will promise to book another cruise while onboard!!!

 

Those of you who have been visited by the elusive fairy, did you book through Viking or a TA?  I am wondering if an upgrade is more likely if booked directly through Viking.

We got an upgrade on our first ocean cruise back in 2016.  We went from PV to a PVJr. Suite.  The best was the free laundry ... we made good use of that!  

 

We we did not have a TA.

We booked through Viking. This is our first Viking. We were in a PV2 so I'm surprised we got upgraded. I would have expected the PV1's to be upgraded to PS and maybe us to PV1. Who knows how or why they do it.

Can be assured that PV and PS all get priority on upgrades.

Imagine our surprise when we just booked a lonely V2 guarantee and went up 6 categories to a DV6.

Still the same cabin size...………..

Lucky you, jams.  That other cruise line we use is fabulous, but they're usually all about upsells rrather than free upgrades.  

 

You didn't book a GTY (guarantee) on a cabin category, did you?  Just curious.

Feeling hopeful that I’ll get an upgrade too.  Am booked in V2 Gty for the Panama Cruise in December.

No not a guarantee. Would have booked a PV3 but there were none available when we booked. Paid for a PV2.

After being outside in the snow tonight, I think I’d be happy anywhere, but this is my first time to get upgraded so extremely thrilled.  The next two weeks can’t go by fast enough!!

Have no idea how the magic gets invoked...this is my 2nd Viking cruise, although my first Viking Ocean cruise.  Just happy to be the recipient of her benevolence!

You're lucky we are doing our tenth and eleventh Viking cruise respectively for myself and other half on the 14th December and then again on the 23rd December and nothing for us!

You can create your own magic by booking the cabin you  want and no fairy necessary.

We always feel the magic when we open our door for the first time and thereafter on any ship.

A week before we departed on the Viking Star, we received an email from Viking and we were upgraded from a V1 to a PV1 room, that was the first time we were upgraded by Viking

I didn’t decide to go on the cruise early enough, and booking for a single seemed to make options even less available, so was just in a guaranty veranda room...sure not complaining! 😀. It will be magic to escape the snow and cold and enjoy the cruise life.

My sister returned from a 15 day Beijing to Hong Kong earlier this month and they got up graded from PV1  to a ES3 which was worth many $1000's. They didn't know they got upgraded until they checked in to board in Beijing. The agents told her that their cabin was on the 4th deck and she argued with the agents that no she was on the 6th deck until she saw the boarding papers which showed the Explorer Suite. This was their first VO cruise and now they are spoiled by the Explorer Suite. She used a TA to book. Later in the cruise they found out the ship was only 85% full and a lot of people got moved up a category or two upon boarding.

May be there's hope for us yet then splashing out on a PJS on a northern lights 2020 cruise! Normally only book a V1 cabin on ocean ones and lowest grade on a river one
