Lost Bag on Allure

We just got off of Allure yesterday (Great cruise!) but one of the people in our group was unable to find her bag when she got off of the ship at the new terminal.  She filed a missing bag report and the person that she talked to said that they would contact her, but so far, no word.  She was told that they had 4 lost bags on the previous cruise and all of them were found.  Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if you knew what her chances of getting it back are.  If she does not get it back, does RCCL compensate her in any way?  Thanks for your replies!

If it is there they will find it, if someone walked off with it then she is out of luck. As far as compensation, that is what insurance is for.

I lost my ID on a cruise in September - I was contacted by RC at the end of October (about 3-4 weeks) and they shipped it to me after I paid for shipping.

We had someone take one of our bags by mistake once.  We were lucky in that they were local and came back to the terminal and turned it in.

always carry our own luggage off no mater what time we leave the ship.  would carry it on too, if royal had a perk like Carnival and status guest could have their room available as soon as you board.

Believe me when I tell you that is the only perk Carnival has that beats RCI's perks for status guests

Happened to me in Miami and the bag eventually turned up after six weeks.  Someone had taken it from the port and flew with it only realising that it wasn't theirs at their destination.  Abandoned on the carousel it took weeks for someone to ID it and fly it back to London.  Delta found it and flew it back with no assistance from RC which was good of them as I was on BA.  It is very important to label your bags.

The worse bit was having to go collect it at Heathrow as I had to be escorted air side and make a declaration to customs that as I hadn't seen the bag for weeks it needed to be searched.  Found that it had been opened and one item stolen but nothing added.

Yeah, that is the STUPIDEST setup ever.

I had bags not make it into LHR when I had an overnight rest stop.  They were supposed to be there when I went to check in for departure the next day.  So I had to go through that mess of calling, and being escorted in, and security screen.   In my case, all for naught, as the bags were not there.

I feel RCCL bares some responsibility with a lost bag since they were the ones transporting it.  It has been a month and I cannot even get customer service to call me back.  I have called a dozen times and have been assigned different agents that never follow up on the case.  Finally, yesterday, a got a hold of an agent that told me the person assigned to this case (3rd different person) is on medical leave.  Wouldn't you think that they would reassign her cases....we have waited over a week to get a call from her.  Then after being asked to list all of the items in the bag and what they cost, I was told they only reimburse you $300 for a lost bag!  That seems really low since it is a 7 day cruise with 2 formal nights.  The bag alone is about $300.  Sorry for ranting...it seems to me like RCCL needs a better system or they should encourage their customers to walk off with their own luggage instead of having a short window of opportunity 7:00-8:30 to do it.

If you carry your own luggage you can walk off at any time till last call.

My BIL had a bag lost because the disembarkation tag was ripped off during the process.  The bag was put in a back area and a staff member was able to locate it.  We now do a walk off but when we did use the ships personnel to offload the luggage we always put 2 luggage tags on each bag, just in case one got ripped off which did happen once time.

More than likely it wasn't RCCL that lost the bag, but rather that someone else picked it up and walked off with it.  Not any different than someone picking up your bag off the baggage carousel at the airport.

That's why you need to read the contract of your ticket.... if you're not happy with the amount covered in your contract, the onus is on you to purchase additional trip insurance that covers lost bags.

You always have the right to walk off with your own luggage, and that is explained in the paperwork that discusses the tag system, etc.  HOWEVER, there are a LOT of passengers who overpack as well as a LOT of passengers who aren't physically able to wrestle multiple bags through the ship and down gangways and escalators.

If everyone carried off their own luggage, the time needed to clear the ship of passengers would probably double because so many would need to use elevators, luggage tipping over and holding up the line behind, etc.  Then you'd have EVERYONE complaining about how long it took to get everyone off the ship, why don't they have a system where the luggage is moved off for everyone just like how it's carried on board for everyone, blah blah blah.

Personal responsibility seems to be a lost art anymore....

Most likely someone walked off with it by mistake. Hope they get it back. I’m thinking some of the contents may be covered by homeowners insurance. This is one reason why last time I bought luggage I specifically went for the brightest most obnoxious color I could find.

We left a bag behind on Oasis of the Seas last year.  Totally our fault.  We headed to WDW after the cruise and realised the following day that we had left it behind when we looked for our camera chargers.  We rang RCI (Sunday) and they eventually located it.  They told us that the only way we could get it back while we were there was to drive back to Port Canaveral on the Wednesday to collect it, otherwise it would be mailed to our home (in Australia).

We rented a car and drove out to pick it up on the Wednesday.  When we got there no-one could find it.  After about 4hours, they realised that someone had sent it to Miami.  The RCI rep was terribly rude and told us we should have paid more attention to what we were doing and that it was all our fault.  Something we had totally already acknowledged and not something we needed to be reminded of at least a dozen times.  Had we been told there was no option for getting it before we left, we would not have rented a car and given up a day at WDW to collect it.  He then went on to tell us that we had to drive to Miami to collect it or it would sit there unclaimed until it was disposed of.

At this stage we decided that it was not worth it and that we did not want to give up any more of our limited time on our very expensive overseas holiday.  On the way back to WDW, I thought I'd give the call centre one more try, got an amazingly helpful girl who located the bag and arranged for it to be sent to WDW.  All we had to do was get a cashiers cheque and have it available when the bag arrived.  Disney were awesome helping us with this and held the cheque until the bag arrived and did the exchange for us.  I'll certainly be more careful next time.
