whatyouknowsays Posted January 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2019 Okay, I admittedly have been out of the loop for a few months. Do you no longer have the option of cancelling a reservation online booked directly through the website? I just have been on hold for 45 minutes after having no luck with chat. I finally had an agent tell me this has never been an option and was super rude on the phone telling me they can't cancel a reservation from a name and captains club number. I finally found the reservation number , but I am not too impressed with the recent customer service. What changed?
ohhbother Posted January 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2019 You can still cancel online. I just did it a week or so ago. Admittedly, it took 10 minutes of searching around to figure out how to do it. They’d buried it. But the ability is still there.

Well, I searched and searched but could never find the option to cancel online. I do remember at one time seeing it but they have done an excellent job of "burying it". Can you shed any light on where exactly you finally found it? Thanks.

whatyouknowsays Posted January 5, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted January 5, 2019 (edited) I just asked for a resolutions specialist and she told me it is no longer an option at this time but they are working on it. Maybe the phone staff is being not so courteous because they are being bogged down with this instead of helping consumers with other things. The agent I got actually sighed when I told her I needed to cancel. Edited January 5, 2019 by whatyouknowsays
jcpc Posted January 5, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2019 I think the problem is with the Celebrity website. I just went into a booking I have for October and now I see the option to cancel the stateroom (yet it wasn't showing up earlier today). And it's not "hidden" at all - it's in plain site on the page.

Maybe they have resolved it!

The agent certainly should have been able to look up the reservation number for you, especially if you know the name of the ship and cruise date. I hope you receive one of those surveys they send out from time to time where you can report your unpleasant experience. Upon reading your post, I looked at one of our own reservations and yes, the option to cancel the reservation online is still there. It is under Manage reservation. If I go into my reservation and scroll down, I see a blue link labeled Cancel Stateroom (just to the left of STATEROOM TOTAL). When I click on the Cancel Stateroom link, another box pops up labeled Cancel Reservation and that one has the actual CANCEL RESERVATION link. But I did not click that one as I don't really want to cancel my reservation. Edited January 6, 2019 by varoo

[Beyond the 10% rebate] As long as you use a Travel Agent who does not hit you with a hefty cancellation fee. The cancellation fee policy, as well as the amount of the rebate can vary greatly from one travel agent to another, as well as from one cruise to another. Different agents are able to offer better deals for different cruises, so it can pay to shop around and compare offers. In general, we find that the higher the cost of the cruise, the more worthwhile it becomes to compare offers from travel agents. For those last minute rock bottom closeout rates, it doesn't make that much difference because the commission they receive on those is so small that they can't offer much of an incentive for us to give them our booking.

I have dealt with several TAs over the years, and none has ever charged a cancellation fee. [But I don't deal with big box store TAs.]

[But I don't deal with big box store TAs.] There is a very large/popular online agent which does a lot of Celebrity business who advertises here on CC who has a cancellation fee. I always ask the question about fees even when I use the agent I always use. I was charge a cancellation fee by this agency one time when I had to cancel 3 days before sailing due to the death of my father. I didn't think it was right since they had full payment and I'm sure received full commission, plus they didn't have to pay Celebrity for the OBC they were giving me! They did actually credit the $100 back to me in OBC on the replacement cruise I booked for 2 weeks later but only after I gave them some grief.
