One advantage of a family trip on Carnival was with assigned seating we knew our 16 person  family group would always be together at dinner.   however it sounds like with freestyle dining it will be harder to sit together at dinner  and/or does the Jewell even have tables for 16 or say two 8 person tables together.

If you want to do it every night I would suggest that you talk to the Maitre d' on Embarkation Day.   BUT do you really want all 16 to be together EVERY evening?   What about some wanting to go "alone" especially if they want to go to a Specialty.

On Carnival with assigned seating did you all have to be in the dining room at the same time for service?  In that case you all KNEW you had to be there "on the dot".

On the Jewel you will find that people become far more "relaxed" and time passes by!!!  Are you going to have a "whipper in" to ensure that everyone is there "on the dot".

It was very common to see tables where people were waiting to be served because they were waiting for others in their party to arrive.

Think through all the possibilities.

The only dining place on most any ship that could seat a large number is the MDR (Main Dining Room) on a

routine basis.

In any event best to contract the Dining room host/hostess or Maitre d well in advance to pull this off successfully !

Otherwise sir the best we can do for your party of 16 in the 4 directions dining room is 4 tables for 4 - one in each

corner of the room for your esteemed guests. And then there is the buffet - self served seating hit and miss !

Communicate - Coordinate !!!

On the Dawn (similar class ship) there were several occasions in the forward MDR where they put tables together to accommodate large parties. It does help if you can plan you meals around the same time each night - talk to the hostess on day one and set up which room and what time works best for you. Also if you have a change in plans - get ahold of the hostess ASAP and let them know.

what we have done is reserve our times and they will arrange for 2 tables of 8 each next to one another, but I do not think they will be able to sit all 16 together. At least I haven't had that experience and have done groups a few times. This applied to Celebrity as well.that was many years ago. The largest tables they had sat 8 and they would not put them together even though its was our granddaughters weeding cruise. And the same on Princess.

Good luck, I hope they will be able  to work with you on this.

Correct !

On the DAWN the Aqua MDR mid-ship has a section port side that can be made into a group or family dining area

for up to 40 guests.

The Venetian MDR aft also has a section on the starboard side (to the left as you come down the stairs from the host desk).

With the exception of the Teppanyaki *** all the rest of the (specialty) restaurants can play musical tables and chairs to

accommodate groups some better than others.

*** the Teppanyaki has two dining units of 16 seats - 32 in all - if this is in your dining plans ADVANCED reservations

would be required check with NCL for the details.

It is of prime importance that all group family gatherings be coordinated with the ships staff.
