Rare roxievegas Posted January 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2019 we are taking our son, dil, and two grandchildren on a cruise in April. What Id is needed to get back through the port areas. Normally we take our sea pass card and our driver's license, but grandkids have no DL (do have their passport - but don't want to take off the ship if not needed) . We are going to Mexico ports. Appreciate any feedback on your experience.
Rare TracieABD Posted January 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2019 I cannot remember a time, in a Mexican port, that I was asked for anything other than my cruise card. Things may have changed, or it may depend on the day....
EDDY0827 Posted January 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2019 In PV, Mexican security asked for gov't issued ID and at the gangway and we used our ship's card to board. I would make a photo copy of the grand kids' passport info page with their photo. If that doesn't work, send a parent to the ship to retrieve their full passports. In Mazatlan, there was nothing special about re-boarding and in Cabo, we had to show ship's ID to board the tender.
Colo Cruiser Posted January 16, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2019 Gaining access to the pier before boarding (in ports) you could be asked to show ID of some kind. In that case you would need something for the children. You never know. Better safe than sorry.
cherylandtk Posted January 16, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2019 I agree with taking a photocopy of the passport page. It should be sufficient in Mexican ports. And the original is accessible to parent/grandparent if not. But for children that young, as long as they come through the gate with a parent I don’t think you will be asked for even the photocopy. goofy559 Posted January 16, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2019 We've never been asked for ID for the kids to get back in the port area - just the adults. As noted, a copy of the passport is a good idea, but likely unnecessary.
Rare roxievegas Posted January 17, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted January 17, 2019 thank you for your responses. We always take a copy of the passport pic page, copy of insurance cards and our original drivers license. We will do the same for the grandkids (minus drivers license) and hopefully will have no problems.
satxdiver Posted January 17, 2019 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2019 We took our DS, DIL and GD along on a cruise to the western Caribbean a few years ago. Our GD was 4 y/o. We were never asked for an ID for the GD who was usually with us while her parents were off by themselves. So for us, no an ID for the 4 y/o was never needed. However her passport was needed to board the ship and return to the port.
atobols Posted January 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted January 17, 2019 We had our 10 and 12 year old in Mexico a couple weeks ago. They didn't need anything other than their ship card to get back on the boat. They needed their passports to get originally, but they never left the safe while we were on board.
