Any insight for surviving interior rm for 3 on Breeze?

Yup no way I’m staying in a room with my mother in law or even my own mother.  Nooooo way.  Too much togetherness for me.  I would rather stay at home.  Definitely cheers for you

We've only been on one cruise, so a small sample size, but we took my mom and my wife's parents (3 rooms). They were in adjacent aft balconies next to our wrap-around. My mom was great at doing her own thing when appropriate. The in-laws .... we couldn't do anything without them all over us. Was grateful for the wrap as that was our only place of peace and quiet.

I think your idea of fixing up in the spa area is solid if there's room. It's just a little more time away from trouble IMO.

I wish you luck. Maybe she'll meet a 70-something gentleman in the casino and give you peace??

I have stayed with 5 in a room before. Of course we were crammed but who cares!! We are on a cruise. There are many places to go to get away. I think part of it is the attitude you go in with. If you know you are going to be too cramped and have a horrible time you are very likely to. 

 

Go and have a great time!! Find a quiet place by yourself if you need it.

I wouldn't do 3 in a balcony, much less and interior, but that is my choice and preference.  There will be those who did and had a great time, those who did and just survived, and those who did and hated that part of the cruise.

 

The OP should have a gut feeling if this arrangement will work for them.  Their dealing with it is all that matters to them.  Our opinions and experiences are almost useless to what they will encounter.

 

And for everyone who says Cheers and booze will help, there are just as many who'll say Cheers and booze will lead to irrational arguments and broken family ties.

I have cruised three times and all three I shared a room with my late 60 YO parents. I'm in my mid 40's. We did Oceanview on 2 and Balcony on 1. I slept in the pull-down bed and it was fine. There's a little ladder to climb into the bed and there was plenty of room to roll over and move around, but I'm only 5'4", so your experience may differ.  The room steward made the bed up each evening and stowed it away each morning, so it really is out of the way.

 

Here's my suggestions for making it work:

 

The first person up should check with anyone to see if they need to use the restroom and once that's done,  shower, get ready and then leave the room. That way you aren't in the way of the next person. I was almost always the first up and would go up to wander the ship and then meet my parents for breakfast later. We used the Carnival Hub app to communicate.

 

Keep your stuff stowed away! My parents have a bad habit of coming into a room and emptying their pockets on whatever flat surface is nearby. By day 4, our room was a disaster and I politely asked them to move stuff into drawers or suitcases. The clutter really piles up in that tiny room with three people! As soon as you come in, hang sweaters, stow shoes, etc. It makes  a world of difference!

 

I don't know which cruise you're going on, but ours have all been very port-intensive so we didn't have a lot of sea days to hang around and get on each other's nerves. Thank God! But just relax, have fun, and be patient. Remember that your MIL won't be around forever and try to enjoy the time you get to hang out with her. I've found that with older people, they often love telling stories about their youth and it's a great way to break down walls that may have grown between you.

My advice.....send your MIL on a different cruise.

You will survive.  We had two adults and two older teens PLUS a mobility scooter in a 4k French Door cabin (same size as a balcony).  We simply made it work.  We're on a cruise!

Your comments are helping me realize I'm probably just being a worrywart about the potential issues instead of focusing on the positives like being on vacation!  It's hard not to enjoy visiting islands with gorgeous blue water and having someone else do all the cooking and cleaning.     

 

I didn't mention that my dad and his girlfriend will be going too.  I talked to his girlfriend yesterday and she offered to help keep MIL entertained.  I think they'll get along pretty well.  

 

My brother, his wife and 8 yr old daughter will also be cruising with us which is probably adding to my stress.  My brother and I just tolerate each other, but this will be a great opportunity to spend some time with my niece.  They live in CO and we live in FL, so we've only seen each other a couple times.  Can't wait to take her to the Dr. Seuss sea day brunch and go on the water slides together!

Just remember that only 2 of you in the cabin get rights to use the spa- the 3rd either has to purchase a pass (by day or by week) or do without. The weekly passes sell out quickly too.

 

So I'd make sure you agree beforehand what to do about using the spa amenities before you cruise. NOTE- this doesn't apply to the showers- they're open to anyone!
