SHOE QUESTION

Hello,

89 cruises so far and would you believe I never cruised in January or February?  Question, I now live in northern Florida where it gets cold, question, has anybody worn boots on a cruise this time of year going to the Bahamas?  I don't want to be out of place.

I once wore my uggs to the port in Orlando from Atlanta. I was going to change once on the ship but there was a cold front on the area. Just pack your summer shoes for the Caribbean. Or instead of a boot can you wear a full coverage shoe like a sneaker?

Good Luck

Thank you, I don't own full closed shoes, its either boots or sandals or flip flops lol   I will wear the boots, looking at our current temperatures today it only got a high of 59 but for the next 10 days it will be an average high of 63 and at night low 40's with some nights 30's this coming week.  Its true, Bahamas can be cool, in fact today it was "warm" a high of 78 still cool for me.

I had to laugh at that, as we fly in from Buffalo, NY for winter cruises, leaving when temps are often below zero, wearing only our fleece and no boots, so we don’t have to deal with them on a ship, lugging them on. No. No boots are ever worn on a cruise in January, LOL. The temps in the Caribbean are in the 80s.

But the poster isn't going to the Caribbean. They're going to the Bahamas.

We cruised from Galveston to Key West and the Bahamas last January.  We froze to death!  It was so cold!  I remember at Freeport, Bahamas, one of the store clerks told us they even had trouble finding and digging out coats for themselves because it was such a cool winter for them. So I’d go by whatever south Florida is experiencing.  If it’s cool there, the Bahamas will be the same.  Take a jacket and closed toe shoes of some sort, in case!

There is usually a rather large difference in temperature between  North FL and South FL. As of 9 this morning there is a 23 degree difference between Jacksonville and Key West.

Thank you for your help everybody.  Yes, there is a 22 degree difference between south florida and north florida during the night.  Right now at 9:24am south florida is 56 and I am 47 and it was down to 40 last night maybe a bit cooler plus the wind chill.  The average for the next 10 days in Nassau is a high of 75 and low 69, at night it get cooler so I will bring the boots and I bring what I feel good in just like deliver42 mentioned.  I can't even imagine anybody going into the water with it that cold. lol

I am in MN. Next week the governor may shut down our schools. Wednesday low is expected to be -25 BEFORE they factor in the windchill.

But yeah...I'd be complaining if I had 50's in the Bahamas if I were trying to escape this torture.

By boots...do you mean winter boots or fashion boots? I saw some cute tall boots on my christmas cruise and we were in the 80's each day.

The first cruise I went on during the month of December I packed some short suede fashion booties to wear with a dress.  I wore them one night thinking it's what I would wear at home for this time of the year, lol.  However everyone else on the ship were wearing their sandals and open toe dress sandals with their formal wear.  Since then I decided I would just leave the boots at home, free up the space in my suitcase, lol.  But it's whatever you feel comfortable in,  I just felt sorta out of place wearing them.  It's kinda like wearing white after labor day, when cruising to the caribbean anything goes, I have always packed my white shorts and capris.

13cheermom-  I can relate to what you saying but I live in Florida and January and February are cold months here.  I will bring sandals with me also and flip flops and choose, the good thing I am only 35 minutes from the port Jax so there is no airline baggage to worry about.

I do have Chefs Table and from what I heard you have to wear closed shoes for that because they give you a tour of the galley....I don't own a pair of closed shoes and don't want to buy a pair because it be only once I wear them, so the boots will work perfectly.

Evandbob lol....I won't even take out my bathing suits again until June when the water is very warm. lol

I would get in the water.  I love cold.  Your body will acclimate to the water temperature.

I wear jeans year round, even though I live in south Louisiana.  I don't give a crap about what other people think of me.

59 and 63 degrees, we would LOVE to have those temperatures here in Missouri.  We can almost dance when it gets to 40 degrees in January and February. 🙂

Lol, right! I’m dancing outside if it ever hit 40 outside in January and February also! Up here in Buffalo, winter runs from as early as October some years, all the way to May! When we hit temps even near 30, we consider that a heat wave! 🤣🤣🤣

Cruisegirl6, I live about 45 minutes south of Jax, this sure is crappy weather for us! We are just off Liberty Thursday and it was pretty chilly. First time in 24 cruises I wore jeans to the port and also packed an extra pair. I really wish I'd packed another pair. The wind was blowing the whole 4 days and overcast so you know it was cool. It was decent in Nassau, sun was in and out, but we all just took a taxi over to the casino at Baha Mar and back. Should have just got an ocean view cabin instead of balcony since we didn't get to use it much.  We did Elation last January and the weather was much nicer, so January and February are crap shoots as to the weather. I'm sure you'll enjoy it either way!

Hi yes your close by me....it is ugly outside, never ending rain and freezing cold, just checked the weather and it says 48 feels like 43 right now at 3:49!!  Suppose to go down to like 30 tuesday and wednesday night yikes!!

I was thinking of going over to the Baha Mar but people told me I won't be able to walk the property outside is this true?  How much did it cost to get there?  We always have gotten the balconies but this time we just chose the Oceanview room because of the time of year and knowing we won't be using the balcony, but glad you had it as its nice for extra light in the room.  Thank you for the heads up, I will be prepared for warm and cool weather, so I will bring my boots too.  Try to stay warm and dry!

About Baha Mar, it's beautiful inside, but not as pretty as it was last year, must have been some special decorations.  I don't know if you're allowed to walk around the property, I Know they were busy, bunch of people checking in the whole time we were there. They have just about any kind of slot machine you could want, there are two huge areas so I'm sure you'll find something you like. We all left a little ahead so that's a win for me. The taxi ride is around $5 per person normally. We had 3 mobility scooters so that presented a problem. We tried to tell the cab guys we could take separate cabs with a scooter in each, but they kept trying to pile all 3 on top of one another in the back of one cab and that ain't happening! After several different ones kept saying they were calling somebody and we'd been waiting about 30 minutes, a policeman came by and we asked if he could help, and one of our group had gotten someone in the meantime who said he would go get his bus and take us all over. Sure enough, in about 10 minutes he came with a really nice new looking bus, got all the scooters loaded and all us and off we went.  We ended up paying him $40 and he also gave us his card so when we were ready to leave, we called and he came to get us. We gave another $40 but it was worth it to ride in a clean decent bus with a nicely dressed young man driving us.

I hope you'll enjoy it. Nassau is really getting crowded, it's crazy right outside the port gates. You didn't say when you were going, don't forget a light jacket too. My hubby left his in the truck thinking he wasn't going to need it. Fortunately as soon as the shops opened I went down and bought the only sweatshirt they had in his size. He said that was the best $40 he's spent in a while, lol.

I am so glad that things worked out for you with the scooters!  I am now debating whether to go only because we really want to check out the grounds for a possible future stay and since there are workers checking on people I think it may be just more of a waste of time for us.  Granted, we would love to play in the casino but we be there all the time on the ship.

We are leaving this saturday.  I told my father in law to bring clothes for warm and cool and I decided to bring my boots, actually because we are going to the Chefs Table and I need a closed shoe and boots is all I have lol.

I may just go to Twin Brothers the fish frye for lunch, or maybe stay on the ship still deciding.  🙂
