Rare mitsugirly Posted February 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2019 We have been here twice and went to Pirates Cove and also The Boatyard. I try to go somewhere new each time and looking for suggestions. Also, since I do extensive reviews, maybe some of you would like a review on a certain place as well that I could consider. We have swam with the turtles and snorkeled the ship wreck and don't mind going back out and doing that again if it's included (or maybe even if not for a reasonable price...I mean you can't go wrong with turtles right?). So....suggestions and go... Also, I assume this really isn't the best choice for a Discover Scuba dive right?
Aplmac Posted February 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2019 Rockley Beach. Locals call it "Accra" after the name of the hotel on that beach. About 15-20 mins. from the Port, depending on the traffic. Mucho amenities in the area... .

Do you know how much they charge for chair/umbrella rental? Do they charge to get in here like they do at The Boatyard and Pirates Cove? Do they offer trips out to the turtles? Is there any snorkeling there at all in the area? Thank you

Do they charge to get in here? ===> Rockley is a public beach: no admission charge Do they offer trips out to the turtles? ===> Negative: wrong area for turtles, per se Is there any snorkeling there at all in the area? ===> Yes...see comments below . About 100 yards/metres off shore you'll notice a long line of dark rocks, an offshore wave barrier man-made, put in place about 20 yrs. ago now. It has since attracted quite a bit of marine life and coral growth. That is pretty much your only snorkelling target at this location but you'll need to bring your own gear I'm fairly sure they don't rent snorkelling gear (but I wouldn't be surprised) although chair and umbrella rentals are available. There are shade trees in the area, and Chefette fast-food/pizza available across the street from the beach and the bus-stop and the taxi-ranks! . We have our own equipment, so we won't need to worry about renting. How deep is the water where you are talking about the dark rocks and man-made barrier? How deep is the water where you are talking about the dark rocks and man-made barrier? . The wave barrier is maybe 100-130 yds long? The tops of the boulders are awash at low tide and about 3 ft. deep at hi tide. The sand bottom the barrier sits on.. is about 15 ft. deep. Hope you have flippers with you: they help. "Rico's By The Sea", being the only beach bar vetted and approved by the Royal Westmorland Group. Rico's has all the facilities, plus there is a small beach clothing shop selling original one off designer pieces for ladies.
helensobol Posted February 13, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2019 Have you looked at Copacabana? I have been considering this place given they have a Tarzan boat as an additional option for kids.
brookie848 Posted February 14, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2019 Kim -- When is your cruise and which cruise line are you going with this time? I usually look at the "big three" and am always happy to see your reviews. We leave in a little over a week for a Southern itinerary on the NCL Dawn. We're probably going to do Rascal's in Barbados and have BeachLimerz booked in Antigua. Good luck with your planning and I'm looking forward to your reports. Is that the boat out in the water with the slide? Does it belong to this place? Does it cost extra? Do you swim out to it? I remember seeing this boat when we were going out to swim with the turtles. Yes, it is the boat with the slide and jumping platforms. It belongs to the Copa and they charge $15 a person for all day access. You do swim out to it to use. I had read something online about a $40 charge that was a "special" they were running for a holiday and thought "WOW, wonder what the non-special is" and figured it was really expensive.

My older son and husband rented a jet ski here as well.

Rockley Beach/Bay is not long by your continental standards... maybe no more than 1/4 mile long, but I've never measured it. At its Western end, you can hook up with the Hastings Boardwalk and that'll carry you 3/4 mile further West till you can then hook up with Hastings Beach! At the Eastern end of Rockley Beach is TIKI BAR but you can also get beverages at the several snack shacks right behind/inland of where the chairs and umbrellas are located. . Suggest you ascertain whether that $40 charge is U.S.$ 40 - or 40 Barbados Dollars?? Very often it is 40 Barbados Dollars (= U.S. $ 20) but if you don't ask, you get suckered into tendering US$40 and the guy chuckles to himself, bcoz you just paid double! You should always assume that the price you're being quoted is in local dollars and not USD! --- FIND OUT! Trust me when I tell you this simple misunderstanding goes down more than you want to know! That problem was like 6 months ago.. and with our change of Gov't. in late May 2018 that issue was made Issue Numero Uno to be immediately rectified and has now been addressed! ..I'm pleased to say!
