"closet" casino player & medallion technology

Help me with this one, so what I understand with the medallion you can locate your fellow cruise mate?  I really enjoyed my casino time 'alone' often telling DH that I was going to an evening show.  Somehow along the way I would turn right (into the casino) and not Left to the evening show.  I would never reveal my casino winnings (though I did purchase him an Effy upgraded diamond wedding ring with such winnings, and we did get a players discounted rate on our next booking), nor would he see casino charges on the room account.  This gal uses cash. :-).   So - now that i'm 'tracked' - whats the game plan?  🙂 .  Im chuckling thinking - do I go to the show - hand the bartender my medallion and say 'cover me for an hour or two'.. then track him down later?  Ok - i'm having fun with this, but if I say 'i'm going to the casino' he wants to be done/back after 20 minutes.

We could have some fun with this one without bringing in the Anne Lander's 2 cents!

As you may need the OM in order to gamble, plan A 'cover me for an hour or two'.. may not work. LOL

You may need to find a good movie for him to watch before sailing off on your little adventure (pun intended), or you may have to make a couple of Lefts to establish a pattern before make that Right handed diversion.

Do you have to purchase the medallion...if so don't buy one. Can't track what you don't have.  I have taken two cruises so far that had the medallions and we did not use them...don't want one.  Enjoy your casino time without concern that big brother and the IRS are looking. :classic_tongue:

Okay, here's my mischievous two cents: though the Count always can be counted on for the obligatory casino visits, and even send over a drink from the bar while I'm busy shaking hands with my new BFF one armed bandit, you might try finding, say, a case or some such "stash place" right by the entrance to the theatre to leave your medallion whilst you go do your business in the casino. Then, when the time is right you just trot back, retrieve it, and saunter back to your cabin, sassy and happy. :classic_wink: Your sister in the casino, Jo

The problem will be that you can't get your money back out of a machine without your medallion/cruise card.  You can put cash in, but can't get cash back out.  The saunter back would have to pass through the casino and hope the money was still on your machine.  Of course, the cash back won't show on the folio.  I guess you'll just have to come clean :classic_blink:

Luckily my traveling companion is right there in the casino with me and I am thinking it will help me find her when the casino is crowded.  I wonder if putting it in an rfid wallet would block your location?

Not that I'm sure about this but once you log in to any machine I believe If you walk away with logging out the machine might cash out automatically after a certain period of time.

It seems logical that they should have some sort of safety built into their program.

What I do know for sure is that if you wrap your Medallion in a piece of aluminum foil it'll only report the last know location it knew you were at.

Dang I'm didn't think of this. I do the same thing with my husband. I tell him I'm going to a class or show and go to the casino. I always do very good and we always get good discounts on our upcoming cruises. Hopefully the locate feature on the medallion is optional or something that can be turned on or off as needed lol!

Mayhaps you could get two medallions from guest services? :classic_blink:

Only one Medallion per person.

If your main concern is the tracking feature --- and it is kind of weird in a way --- leave the medallion in the cabin and use your cruise card with cash at the casino.

The cruise cards are being made obsolete with ships that have Medallions.

I thought I heard there is an incognito mode that turns off many of the functions. If this can be turned off and on easily, that might be the solution.

It might. I couldn't get the Ocean Ready app to work after numerous tries & just gave up on it. Maybe that's where the "switch" in located?

The times I used it to find the wife it worked OK except that the location is vague at this point until they install more sensors. Some upper decks on the Regal don't have sensors at all.

If you were to wrap the medallion in foil/turn off the tracking or "accidentally" leave it somewhere else for a specific sneaky casino trip...... if your partner did try and locate you on the ship and couldn't find you, would he report you missing?  or at least question you about it later?   It could raise some uncomfortable questions if you were caught specifically trying to avoid tracking.

Personally if I was going to do that, I'd make a point of blocking the tracking during the whole cruise, so that my behaviour wouldn't be any different while doing my sneaky casino visits.

... just a thought...
