Question about Waterfront

I have cruised exclusively with Princess and am trying to learn about NCL and Bliss.  Ideally, I prefer a traditional covered promenade deck for walking in the shade and sitting and reading in the shade.

May I sit at the restaurant tables on the Waterfront when the restaurants aren’t open?

i see there are also sofas on the Waterfront.  May I sit here to read, or do I need to order a drink to use the sofas?

there is a second covers promenade deck beneath the Waterfront.  Is this good for walking or is it used for smoking?

Yes.

No purchase necessary. Read/relax all day, if you want.

The lower deck is good for walking although it doesn't go all the way around the ship and most of the view is partially obstructed by lifeboats.  I don't think you can smoke out there.  I have thought that perhaps this deck is not designed for passenger use, but there's no problem with your using it unless the crew are working out there on a lifeboat or whatever.  It's usually deserted, if you want a quiet walk.

Also, you can get a little further forward than you can on the Waterfront, which has sometimes been useful for watching things.

The Waterfront is a lovely place to sit and read in the shade.

You may use the restaurant tables (if you want a sturdy table and chair) or the sofas along the Waterfront all day.

Both the Waterfront and the boat deck below are nice for walking. Both decks end at the aft elevator lobby where you cut across to the opposite side of the ship. Really not a distraction at all. At the bow, the Waterfront goes all the way around the front of the ship. The boat deck requires that you cut through at the front elevator lobby.

No smoking is allowed on either deck, but the entrance to the smoking lounge is located on the Waterfront.

The waterfront goes around the stern of the Away class ships...

Deck 7 which is the deck below the Waterfront is a great way to get forward to aft without the traffic around the atrium and O'Sheehans, and you avoid the smoke in the casino.

You’ll enjoy it, one of the best features of the Away class NCL Ships

I agree.   When we first started cruising in those cheapest Inside cabins, we always took a walk on the open air deck before going to bed each evening.  Now we have balconies, but we still love a promenade deck to enjoy being at sea.

We were just in port next to RCL's Symphony of the Seas which does not have anything like the Waterfront.  I'm sure it's a fabulous ship but we will never cruise on it.

Sure you can sit there...good luck getting a cool chair LOL

I have never had a issue finding a chair on the Waterfront.  I have been on the Getaway a few times, Escape, Bliss, and never had issue of finding a chair.  I really like the Waterfront.

We've sailed the Breakaway twice and spent a lot of time on the Waterfront during the day.  We would find a chair on the shady side of the boat, sit, read and relax.  It is one of my favorite parts of the ship.  We are going on the Getaway this summer and I am looking forward to spending a lot of time on the waterfront.  It's usually really quiet, in fact I totally forgot I was on a HUGE ship with a lot of people.

Its a great place to hang out when you're in port too.  It's fun to see all the yachts and small sailing ships in some of the harbors.  They have a couple of binoculars mounted on a stand that you can use to look at the island or harbor with.

Very enjoyable to hang out there with the ocean breeze🌞

If you look at some of the pictures of the waterfront you can see that only the outside few feet is left uncovered.
