Mammafontz Posted March 10, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2019 We will be on the Summit in July with a large group. I know that Celebrity has an app that will allow you to do certain things, like text others on the ship, however it says it’s not available on the Summit. Are there any other apps that will let us do this?? Or do we need walk-in Talkies?
stevea36 Posted March 10, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2019 I would wait a couple of weeks, until the ship emerges from its "revolution" to see what will be available.

Rare Jim_Iain Posted March 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2019 Unless they add texting capability to the app you will be limited to use apps like WhatsApp but all would require an internet package
Mammafontz Posted March 10, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted March 10, 2019 Thanks. I really don’t want that at all. I’m looking forward to getting away from technology for a week and I don’t want my 4 teens using it either. We just want to communicate with each other on the ship. Tourist1292 Posted March 10, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 10, 2019 It seems they may add the App support after the update of the ship. One of the main upgrade scheduled in 2019-2023 on 9 ships is for the high-tech amenities including the Wi-Fi. Millennium has been done with that and is on the app. Summit should be the next one this month. However, they still need to work on the App to make it fully functional. Before that, one will need multiple device internet packages or the basic text and browse package (if available). Has anyone heard more about that latter $99 package? gold1953 Posted March 10, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 10, 2019 Perfect .. a week with no internet for teens!!! communication can be calling the cabin from phones around the ship and leaving sticky notes in cabin. Set several time and place meetings daily
WandHinTX Posted March 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2019 If you're an AT&T customer, they have 30 day packages you can add. $50 for unlimited text/50 minutes talk $100 for unlimited talk/text, 200 MB data https://www.att.com/offers/international-plans/cruise-packages.html
LA_CA_GAL Posted March 11, 2019 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2019 Forget about walkie talkies. Have you cruised before? If you ever sailed on the Summit (or similar ship) you will find it easy to keep in contact with each other. Set up meet times. See you at the pool bar at 1:00. Stop by the casino at 9:00. During the day, most of the time will be spent going from the pool to the buffet to the pool and back. We are also doing the Summit in July, the 14th. If you are on that cruise, think about joining our roll call. We have done this cruise twice. Needless to say, we really have enjoyed it.
Tourist1292 Posted March 11, 2019 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2019 Unfortunately, family does not run like military. Particularly kids keep changing their mind and forget about time. The pool may be too cold and go to iLounge, library, or gym. It may be fine in a smaller ship.

I have full internet package on my current cruise (Eclipse). As I was signing up & logging in yesterday I noticed several price options including one for Texting (and email?) But sorry didn’t note the details.
Mammafontz Posted March 11, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted March 11, 2019 Thanks. Yes, I’ve cruised before a bunch of times and on the Summit before too. With just my family we’ve managed before. My kids are 25, 20, 18 and 14. But this trip will have 14 of us, including my elderly parents (one who is handicapped), so I wanted to make sure we could stay in touch since she won’t be with us at all times. gold1953 Posted March 11, 2019 #13 Share Posted March 11, 2019 have the teens mark your daily .. each with a different colour highlighter.. Then if they decide to go off somewhere, they can call your cabin and leave a message walkie talkies annoy every one around you.. belong in the woods
