mama_2_boys Posted March 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Safest transportation from port to Doctors Cave Beach? I didn't know if a taxi would be ok or if we need to book a tour of some sort. Carnival does not offer any excursions there other than those that go to other places such as the dolphin swim. Also how far of a drive is it? We've never done Montego Bay on our own and stayed on the ship the last 2 times we were there. I posted this on the Jamaica board but it's dead and rarely gets replies. coevan Posted March 14, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2019 taxis are fine, they will be lined up at the dock and waiting at Doctor's Cave when you return.
Ariel1985 Posted March 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Taxi is fine. We took one from MB to one of the Sandals resorts. Dewayne was the driver’s name. He was waiting on us at the end of the day just like he said he’d be.
coevan Posted March 14, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Jamaica gets a bad rap. The people are the nicest of almost any island. Is there drugs, yes, just like the states or any other island. Would I go to Kingston at 2am, NO, but I would go to Watts or S. chicago at 2 am either. Use common sense, Jamaica is a wonderful island. We stayed 2 weeks at Sandals Negril and we still say, one of our best land based trips ever.

evandbob Posted March 14, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2019 I've gone to Dr Caves Beach in a small shuttle bus that held maybe 20 people. Bus was just as we emerge from the port bldg. We arranged a time for pick up to get back to the port as well. If you snorkel, there's a nice area past the raft to check out some corals and fish.

Not much help on Jamaica board unfortunately I see people all the time directing people to the sub forums for information such as this. Only to be left hanging while spider webs grow on their questions. That's why most of us will answer here and let the moderators move things where they feel the article should be.

Rare mexicobob Posted March 15, 2019 #11 Share Posted March 15, 2019 When we were there we took a taxi with no problem. Enjoyed the beach and the food. Afterwards, went down the street to Margaritaville and had great drinks. Many taxis lined up outside for the ride back to the ship. Older driver offered us the "best" marijuana in the world. Have always kinda regretted turning him down. Do not see how this could be a dangerous place as it appeared to me most were stoned to the eyeball. Never saw so much pot smoking in my life and I grew up in Mexico. If I remember right, it took about 15-20 minutes to go from dock to Doctors Cove Beach. It did look like traffic could become a problem so would allow plenty of time to get back to the ship. Do not do like us and stop at the bar at the pier until they start pulling the stairs to the ship up. We were the last ones on and were given a stern "talking to" by ships officers. I do not pay attention to what The State Department says. They have cried wolf too many times.
Joebucks Posted March 15, 2019 #12 Share Posted March 15, 2019 Maybe it was me, but Montego Bay seemed like the steepest price of any taxi I have ever seen. It was $50 to go 20 minutes up the road. 1
