cotomom Posted April 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2019 Did a search but there are no recent threads. What is the current proof needed to qualify for military discount? Original DD 214 shown at check in, a copy shown at check in, a faxed/emailed in copy ahead of time, etc?
Clarea Posted April 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2019 Royal says they need the DD214, but virtually everyone who gets the military discount says that they never ask to see it.

blueridgemama Posted April 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2019 One really nice benefit on Princess is a military discount that we have been offered on every cruise.
ashleyriley Posted April 15, 2019 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2019 In my experience with Princess it was in the form of on board credit. Either way, really nice that cruise lines do something.
ONECRUISER Posted April 15, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) Done 3 Military Discount Cruises in two and a half years, always bring documentation but yet to been asked to show it. Rarely offered Discount but lately seen it more and at about 6/7 months before sailing. Mine were only offered on Balcony cabins... Oh please don't broadcast this...I can already see people selecting the discount and then hoping they don't get asked for proof...and if they do, conveniently "forgetting" it. Rare island lady Posted April 15, 2019 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2019 Only recently started putting in the military discount option. DH carries his military card with him anyway, and is ready to show it if asked. Senior discount, they don't ask to see our DL to verify our old fart status....guess we look old enough not to ask. 😲 2

Even though over the last couple of years we have input the military discount option...we have never received a military discount.

Good, wish they were offered on more sailings but got between $600-900 off my Royal Cruises. Though usually not that much saved and hard to find... Judyrem Posted April 15, 2019 #18 Share Posted April 15, 2019 One cruiser, my friend who is married to a retired Marine always bemoans the fact that the military pay is/was so low, my daughter did too. It's very nice when a business recognizes their service and sacrifice and gives them a discount. My granddaughter has just received her very own military ID and she is quite proud of it! 14Terry Posted April 15, 2019 #19 Share Posted April 15, 2019 We’ve been able to get a military discount on a few cruises. I do carry my DD214 and military ID in the event I get asked. Nice benefit when it’s available. Happy cruising everyone.
Magnetchief Posted April 16, 2019 #20 Share Posted April 16, 2019 Never received it on a RCi cruise. Cunard gave us a nice OBC crossing the Atlantic.

Rare orville99 Posted April 16, 2019 #22 Share Posted April 16, 2019 DW and I always carry our LEO ID's just in case they actually offer a LEO discount. 50 cruises and have yet to see one, so I imagine military, senior, and resident discounts are also quite rare.

Hmmm...forgot about checking on that one. We get 10% on parking at ParkNCruise in PC. And of course our favorite...10% discount at Lowes...something all "money pit" owners can use. 😮

DaniDanielle Posted April 16, 2019 #25 Share Posted April 16, 2019 We got the discount a few times also. Seems random. Always bring your proof, because you never know. I keep his with our passports.
