carnival vista vs. celebrity equinox

We are trying to decide between the Carnival Vista or the Celebrity Equinox for June. Which would you choose? It will be just me and my husband.  We live in Houston so leaving on the Carnival out of Galveston would save us money. I love not having to fly but I am afraid there will be too many children and crowds on the Carnival since school is out. I like the itinerary a bit better on the Equinox because there is one lest sea day. Do you think the food would be much better on Celebrity vs. Carnival?  Which ship would have more to do for adults on sea days?

I can't speak for Carnival currently, but after (5) cruises DW and I are over it. We have sailed the Equinox twice recently and find it to be one of our overall favorite ships. You find some kids on the Equinox, but not many. We found the food and service excellent everywhere. Their target demographic is some what older and activities are more of an adult nature.

As always YMMV.............

I have never sailed on Carnival but have sailed on Equinox a couple of times and would suggest that based on the criteria you've identified, Equinox would IMO be the far better choice.   Celebrity's focus is more on adult cruisers with less of a family make up when compared to Carnival, which is more oriented towards younger and family demographics.  Celebrity / Equinox is more of a traditional cruise experience without most of the whistles and bells and younger activities often associated with Carnival. Food is very subjective and I have no basis for comparison to Carnival, but I will say that in experience, the food on Equinox is very good.  As experienced cruisers whose children are all now adults, our first choice in cruise lines is Celebrity.

Thank you, that is very helpful. I'm happy to hear that you liked the food on Equinox and that there are more adult-centered activities.

Thank you, It does sound like celebrity is a better fit for us. We are leaving our child with Grandma and I work with children all year so I would appreciate a break from them 😄

So does my wife, she's had a fantastic in-home daycare for the past 25 years and enjoys a break from the little ones. It's one of the reasons we started enjoying all inclusive resorts.
From our experience, we enjoyed the live public music (not the main shows) on Carnival more. But the feel and vibe of Celebrity more.

And Equinox gives you more itinerary choices compared to only the Western Caribbean out of Houston.

The Celebrity Equinox is getting completely refurbished this May 2019. We are also booked for June the 22, 2019. We have 70 cruises so far with many different cruise lines. Just returned from a cruise on the Celebrity Reflection the sister ship to the Equinox. It was an excellent 11 day cruise. Entertainment and the food was great. The Equinox was just picked the 2019 best large cruise ship out of 70 voted on by 350,000 people. So I would think you should have a super cruise. I know we will. The Carnival is a different type of ship experience. More children will be on it than the Celebrity. Less to do for children. The food on the Celebrity if far better than Carnival. Celebrity is more for easy cruising adults than Carnival. Hope that helps you decide.
