topanga49er Posted June 14, 2022 #951 Share Posted June 14, 2022 Thank you all for your putting the puzzle pieces together! Just so excited to see what the final ship will be like... and to book her as soon as we can! Sounds like it's going to be a long summer!

I thought I was losing it 😀 NOW they are installing a mega block aft of the recent ones. 🙂 As I type this they are moving & installing the big stairway mega block on the starboard side. I found these not very good images on Google Maps taken in May 2022 apparently. There are boat tours near and to the shipyard area. Its popping up in tourist photos. 😁 Edited June 14, 2022 by Tough as Leather 1
Tough as Leather Posted June 15, 2022 #954 Share Posted June 15, 2022 An odd Icon block. Do other Royal Caribbean ships have those small windows facing into the balcony?

Old Fart Cruisers Posted June 15, 2022 #956 Share Posted June 15, 2022 It looks almost like fresh air intake, but it wouldn't make sense to have the ones on the sides if those are going to be occupied balconies.
Rare crewsweeper Posted June 15, 2022 #957 Share Posted June 15, 2022 A brief step away from the topic. For those of you interested in more details on ship building, Michael Fabey's new book "Heavy Metal" on the building of the USS John F Kennedy super carrier could be of interest. I believe it's released as of yesterday. Now back to the regularly scheduled progress on the Icon,
cantgetaname Posted June 18, 2022 #958 Share Posted June 18, 2022 Is there any maiden voyage or completion date yet? I've never been on a maiden voyage of a ship but would love to. Anyone know how aside from this topic which I'll keep my eyes on, how to find out so it's not booked up before I can book a cabin?

Michael Bayley described the 5,000-passenger Icon of the Seas – which will the first new class of ship for Royal Caribbean since 2014 – as the line’s “newest class of genuinely game changing ships”, which he said the line had spent five years designing. He stressed the importance of the UK market which he said had been significant to the line “almost since the beginning of the company”. “I don’t see that ever changing,” he added. “In fact, it’s so important that I promise you will bring Icon of the Seas into Southampton. The UK will be the first country and market that we will bring this incredible ship into [when it launches] in 2023. “We’ll do a huge trade event in the UK and Ireland – we’ll invite all of our travel partners to see the biggest, best, most stunning exciting product on the planet. I can’t commit on the date,” he said, adding: “But it’s going to be around October time."

There are a few more images on the board, but official details about the Sphere-class haven't been revealed yet. A closer view of the seating that @Lloyd555 pointed out in a past posting. I am noticing a slant to these deviders. It appears that the two lower decks may not be Infinite Balcony cabins. Assuming they keep those on the same deck levels then does that place these 12 to 16. On the other hand they can switch from Infinite to regular type balconies on the same deck similar to Celebrity Edge Class.

Goodness knows football arena 'domes' come in different shapes. If the AquaDome is NOT literally dome shaped (elongated, warped, flattened at the top, etc.) it could look okay in at the bow, the middle or the stern of the ship. Royal would find a way to incorporate it into the structure of the ship. It can easily be a skydome and it doesn't have to be high at all. The P&O Iona has a beautiful skydome on the same ship as the Carnival Mardi Gras. You'll notice the dome is not that tall because it sits above a two deck pool and entertainment area. It's a stunning space that is a pool during the day and they put on entertainment shows at least some nights of the cruise. The entire dome is full of LED lighting. Look at some of the YouTube reviews for the ship. I honestly wish they had installed the dome on Mardi Gras instead of the Grand Central area. It looks like a much better multi-purpose area.
