Why is Norwegian the only cruise line not offering a full refund?

Sorry for the rant but I am so tired of the constant complaining from folks who act as if this is the first time a cruise line has had to change an itinerary.  It isn't the first and it definitely will NOT be the last.  So if you are concerned it may happen to you, time to call your travel agent and make other plans.

Why would you allow someone else's complaining to affect you? It isn't worth it. Suffice it to say, customer complaints are part of the day to day operations of any business. A lot of what you see is emotion from disappointed guests and a cruise message board is a ripe venue for venting. Have you read the posts about Cuba over on CCL and RCL.  Same complaining there.

When the next incident occurs, I predict you'll read more complaining (unless you choose to skip over those posts.)

Yes they are... they are offering the BEST compensation of any of the cruise lines... 50% refund if you choose to go on your booked sailing PLUS 50% off your next booking. Or, if you prefer to cancel, you get a full refund. Where was it posted otherwise? Read attached...

Because they are NCL. A joke of a company that is inferior to the even Carnival nowadays. They care little about their customers (just look at the shortened TA and various other fails on their part) and the proof is obvious for all to see. I used to book NCL because they had dirt cheap last minute cruises on Sun out of PC. But after their piss poor handling of this and other incidents in the past, you couldn’t pay me to book this joke of a company.

Oh, so you must think those that cite legalise and contracts are champions and cheerleaders for NCL? I wasn't going there.

I just meant that everything is so black and white to these people. Sometimes you have to find a common ground somewhere in between the extremes. Sometimes a business makes a business decision and it is ok to turn a blind eye to the legalise.

Its called empathy. Something NCL lacks.

Samesies.. looks like my cruise is coming together on my profile.  Halfway built, and our Cuba stop has turned into a stop at Grand Bahama Island, and Nassau for our 7/29 cruise on the sun.  So we get three stops now  (also Key West) , plus half our money back, and half off another cruise in the next year and a half.

Thanks NCL.

On the July 29 NCL Sun sailing? If you like, please join our FB group page... I can't put the link here for some reason but it is Norwegian Sun July 29-August 2 2019 Sailing

They’re... offering full refunds. I mean, I’m not saying there isn’t reason to be bothered by some of NCL’s decisions. They haven’t exactly had a perfect past. But I don’t know how they could better handle something they have zero control of.

What would you suggest?

NCL (Holdings) is a publicly traded company also and Holdco owns multiple lines beyond NCL.  NCL would be more than capable of covering the full refunds, this is not a valid excuse.

No excuse necessary to abide by a legally binding contract.

None of the other cruise lines had to either, NCL just decided they didn't want to look like money grabbers compared to RCI and Carnival.  Always takes NCL longer to do the right thing.

"do the right thing" = Appeal to pity and shame in order to try to get yout way when you know you are 100% in the wrong.

This is a logical fallacy called the 'fallacy of relative privation' ("this bad thing isn't that bad, because other things are worse"), and I really hate seeing it used to defend billion-dollar corporations.

Sort of like the appeal to pity of saying that a company should just "do the right thing"?

My life is great, thanks 😁  My point is that if people know they would be this disappointed or enraged if their vacation didn't go as planned, perhaps they need to choose a different type of vacation.

I enjoy cruise casinos.  To me, these complaints are the same as if I came here after every cruise posting "What does NCL plan to do about the money I lost in their slot machines!!!  They market their cruises as a fun vacation - they should have done SOMETHING to make me feel better!  So what they gave me a huge discount or comp to come back on another cruise on their money-stealing cruise line!!!!!!!  If they CARED about me, they would also refund my money!!!  Waaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!! Anybody know a class action lawyer!???!!"

I know when I put money in a slot machine I may never see it again.  If I'm not OK with that, I don't do it.  I also know when I step on a cruise ship to go to Bermuda, I may wind up in Nova Scotia - or we may never leave the port.  I roll those dice, because I know I am good in any case.  If I wasn't, I wouldn't get on the ship.

Huh?  I don't see where their offering guests a full refund or 50% off the cruise and a 50% a future cruise is poor handing and uncaring.

Do the right thing = match the allowing of the competition to cancel with full refund or suffer the economic consequences.  The Getaway TA fiasco was enough for me, no matter what they have the legal right to do or not do.  Unless I get one hell of a last minute deal, NCL is off the list for me.  Too many other superior choices.

Oh good @cruisingnole is back.

Had one cruise on NCL, didn't like it, fair enough. Now he spends his time trawling through threads and criticising NCL at almost every opportunity. Particularly dislikes the Epic, a ship he's never been on.

Troll off Semi.

FWIW I would take the cruise with a 50% refund plus 50% off another cruise and be happy to do so. Each to their own but as far as I'm concerned I'm on a cruise and that's OK by me.

Wow, lighten up man. Your post comes across to me like you are upset that NCL us taking care of their people. Be happy that it all is working out. NCL has made a business decision to relax the terms of their contract. It's ok, man.

Personally, I would like to thank the people who are all stating that they will never consider NCL again.  This should help the rest of us when they reduce their fares to fill the ships!

Ha. I was actually one of those people, until I snagged a couple $299 deals last month. At that price point, an NCL cruise can exceed my expectations.
