margbem Posted June 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2019 What about the Italian lakes? We have been to Lake Garda and loved it. Stay in Garda itself for good transport links.
dogs4fun Posted June 8, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2019 There are many choices depending on what interests you and how far from Venice you wish to stay. We also love the lakes - especially Garda & Como. Located closer to Venice than the lake district, you might also check-out the following: Vicenza, Verona, Padua (Padova), Bassano del Grappa (famous for, of course, Grappa) & Treviso. If you are interested in a relaxing spa experience, my mom loved Montegrotto Terme.
slidergirl Posted June 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2019 So many choices! If you want music - see if any of the concerts at the Arena di Verona whet your whistle. This summer, it goes from classic Italian with symphony to Opera Elton John (happened in May). I loved Bolzano - gateway to the Dolomites. Did a drive from Bolzano through the Great Road of the Dolomites to Cortina. Spectacular mountain drive!!!
bennybear Posted June 9, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 9, 2019 We loved the area just outside of Bologna, Modena for Balsamic vinegar, Maranello for Ferrari’s, Parma... or Trieste with its beautiful castle and sea. Or north to Asolo or explore the gorgeous Palladian villas or...... so many choices

SuzCruise Posted June 18, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 18, 2019 We just got back from a diy land trip and loved Verona. Mantua was a day trip we really enjoyed and wished we had more time. We made a note in the travel journal to return if we ever do another cruise that stops in Venice. Also did day trips to Vicenza (skip it) and Padua (day trip is perfect). Bologna and all of Emilia Romagna was delicious. 😉.
