Order small portions in restaurants?

I grew up poor. I really hate wasting food. I'm blessed to be able to cruise later in life but I still really hate to create waste where it isn't necessary. Yes, I know the cruise line tosses insane amounts of "extra" food. I don't need to add to that waste if not necessary.

 

I actually had the staff in Crown Grill act peeved with me on our last cruise. I couldn't finish my dinner and refused to order dessert even though they pretty much tried to force me to do so. I just told them, "We only eat until we are full and then stop". They actually seemed offended.

On recent Alaska cruise I heard that Princess grinds up uneaten food and can legally dump it in the ocean where it acts as food for sea life 🙂
