Hello,

The Ectasy dry dock is this coming October.  Does anybody know what they be doing during this dry dock?  I know two people that went on her recently and reading about it here, she is in bad shape.  My worry, we will be on her right after this October Dry dock I believe on October 21.

There is a sailing before mine right after dry dock.  Just hoping they make her better as she is in bad shape, I hate to cancel a second Carnival cruise this year, and if I go on this ship and its bad, my other half will want to cancel the Mardi Gras and never go Carnival again....but on another note, we just give RC our business, but hoping this ship be renovated nicely to continue going on both cruise lines.

I was on the Ecstasy last year and I went on the Behind the Fun tour. They said the dry dock was routine maintenance, they were not expecting any major changes like the types of renovations the Paradise got with extra decks added and all that. Of course that was a year ago so who knows what might have changed between then and now.

What would they be doing in the dry dock is the question?  If we go on this ship and she is bad, there is no way my other half cruise Carnival again and we generally take three cruses a year...not that I mind RC as that is my favorite but I like to go on different cruise lines to feel I am on different ships.  All the ships on RC all feel the same.

This is a routine maintenance dry dock. They will probably do a deep clean, fix minor but noticeable issues, refresh the bedding and curtains maybe, things of that nature.

If you are expecting a fully renovated ship after dry dock, you will be disappointed.

You mentioned that if the Ecstasy is bad, your other half will want to cancel the Mardi Gras.

Comparing the Ecstasy to the Mardi Gras is unfair. Ecstasy is an old girl who has served her time, millions of passengers and, in all actuality, will be nothing compared to what the Mardi Gras will be.

Does that mean we won't be on the Ecstasy for Christmas this year? Nope, we'll be on her, and we'll have a great time with our friends. Next year, we will be on the Mardi Gras and will have a great time as well, and probably ooh and ahh over how wonderful she is.

Not trying to offend you, just trying to say you can't compare these two ships and hope for an equal outcome.

It's like comparing Grandma's comfy old 70's Buick to a new BMW.

Hello jessencaitly:

If they do paint and such and tidy up beddings and staterooms that be just fine with us.  I did find this:

https://www.cruisehive.com/7-carnival-cruise-ships-will-be-upgraded-in-2019/28646

I agree and hear what you say but.....

There is a story why he would cancel the Mardi Gras, granted it will be their newest and largest ship but our experience on the Breeze this past may we always had long lines, crowds, waiting 20 plus minutes or so on line for the breakfast buffet not to mention the lack of selection/variety at the lunch buffet just turned him off. Even at night there is only pizza to eat and no matter what carnival ship you are on, there is always a huge wait time to get pizza.   I do have to admit he was right and understand what he means but if the Elation does not live up to 3/4 of our expectations ( meaning no sewage smells as many report and having a clean looking ships without the chips of paint, stains on carpets, rust on ship, etc as people have reported) he will definitely cancel and stay away from Carnival.

I been eyeballing the Mardi Gras floor plan and quite honestly, I believe its going to feel very crowded in the interior main public areas.  For instance, take the RC Oasis class ship, at least you have the promenade as one of the large interior pubic places that people walk, plus the casino deck which has other public interior places to go and there is Central Park as well as Boardwalk so there are multiple interior places to go on RC and not feel crowded.  These ships offer multiple different areas for "people flow".  On the Mardi Gras take deck 8 which is an interior public space, it just consists of places for food and I can see that being a very heavy traffic area during eating times.  The center does have a atrium area that is three levels up deck 6-8 and if you look at the deck plans that isn't a large amount of interior public deck space event through it is on three decks, its way too small for 5282-6338 passengers!   Imagine the lines at the lido marketplace, already on lets say the Breeze its extremely crowded and takes long to get food especially for breakfast, I can't imagine a ship with double/triple amount of people!  Surely, it be larger but with all those people I feel it still won't be enough.

I also looking at. the pool areas, there are multiple pools, but they are small and it appears to me that there be alot of people not being able to find a chair there too, unless they get up very early am and place a towel on it.

I always have said larger is better for on Carnival ships it doesn't work that way and quite honestly, it does't work that way for Norwegian too.  The layout of their ships aren't as great as Princess and Royal Caribbean.  Then you have to consider the fact that Carnival cut back the bartenders and servers so they be working extra hard.  You may think this will be all new and different, but its Carnival, they always make sure they watch their buck and cut back on things to keep the price good for the passengers.

Just got off Ecstasy Monday. There is a sewer odor that does hit the air from time to time in the hallways, around elevators and in some rooms. The cruise Director informed many of us that a sewer drainage pipe has been broken below in the crews dining area. All maintenance attempts to fix it have been in vain. Hopefully they will repair it in drydock.

How lovely for the crew who are trying to keep their food down.

After reading this post I am not sure if I want to cruise on Carnival again. Surprised you still plan to cruise on Carnival.

My other half told me last night why don't I just cancel the Ecstasy and the Mardi Gras.  I told him why the Mardi Gras its the newest and largest ship and he said because its Carnival and its all the same.  I told him I loose the deposit and he doesn't care so I said if I loose the deposit I mind as well just wait till final payment is due to cancel (hoping seeing some photos and videos as its being built will convince him to keep it).

I don't mind lines, but when you take over 20 minutes to get some eggs, potatoes and bacon that is insane, not to mention the lack of variety for lunch in the buffet.  I was shocked to come off the Breeze to find all the problems we had with her, really didn't think that crowds and long lines would been an issue.  I do admit the ac worked well for us on the Breeze and not all the other carnival ships.

We generally cruise three times a year, our main cruise is always on a RC ship and the other two is a mix of RC and Carnival.  I been thinking of trying Celebrity and my diamond status on RC turns to Elite on Celebrity and I love the fact many times they include two perks which I would choose the drink and internet package.  I also would go back to Princess but most of their cruises from Ft. Lauderdale are very long cruises.  I would also consider Virgin Cruises when it comes out, that be interesting I think?

I probably will cancel the Mardi Gras, but no need to do that now since we be loosing the $500 deposit.  I just wait until next July when final payment is due and decide.

Loved the Ecstasy!  We sailed her many times when she was home-ported in Charleston.  Loved the Fantasy class Carnival ships.
