They were darker, crispier, more like little potato latkes and less like the knishy things they have now. The old ones were addictively good. When I had ordered my breakfast - I would state crispy crunchy hash browns that actually had a well golden brown color and a minimal amount of butter content (or whatever was used to brown them).
