You pull up your big boy pants and find transportation to the next port.  St Maarten has an airport, believe it or not.  And you should not leave all of your money on the ship.  Plus the ships will generally search the safe for your passport and leave it with the agent at the pier.  And worst case scenario? You enjoy a different kind of vacation.  Maybe a few days at the beach in St. Maarten.

If you're watching the boat pull out you weren't even CLOSE to making the all-aboard time. It's not like the ship is able to leave 5 minutes later, generally speaking.

In 65 cruises have never been anywhere close to missing the ship, people got what they deserved.

It's really the only reason I cruise.  I especially like Aruba where the rental car return is just across the street for the cruiseline terminal.  People trying to return their cars (long lines) and making the ship.
