ZoeyVictoria Posted August 28, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2019 When Carnival cancels cruises due to hurricanes, is it possible to have funds transferred to another cruise rather than refunded to the original method of payment (credit card)? We are booked on the Liberty out of Port Canaveral on September 2, which I expect to be cancelled. I used American Express offers ($75 statement credits for two $350 Carnival charges), so I do not want credit card refunds that might result in reversal of the $75 credits. I intend to immediately book the next available Liberty sailing, and would prefer to transfer the money paid to the new cruise. Has anyone been able to do that in the past? Rare Eli_6 Posted August 28, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2019 I don't know about a hurricane, but we were on one of the Vista sailings that was cancelled for it to go into dry dock due to mechanical errors. We got a refund and a cruise credit. So, basically our money back and a free cruise. But this was a Carnival problem and not weather.

I expect a refund with no additional perks, since it would be a weather related cancellation. I would just prefer to have the money already paid transferred to another cruise and not refunded to the credit card.

The chances of Carnival cancelling the cruise are slim to none. Worst case is the cruise gets delayed a day. Now if Dorian becomes a Cat 5 and hits Port Canaveral directly, disregard my comment. ZoeyVictoria Posted August 28, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted August 28, 2019 I was booked on the September 10, 2017 sailing, the day Irma hit. It was cancelled on the 9th, at the very last minute. Next year we will go on August 16, which should be a bit too early to have this happen to us three times.

It is rare that Carnival will cancel a cruise due to a hurricane unless the hurricane is hitting your embarkation port the day you are embarking. Now, itinerary changes happen all the time. I am working on Plan B, so I can act immediately if that does happen.

Has anyone been able to do that in the past? 2017 when Maria hit san Juan our cruise was cancelled. We were offered a refund( no additional offers) and the only cruise that matched the exact dates we had already scheduled off was the Dream out of NOLA they transferred the money (the card originally booked with was paid off anyway). We did have to pay and additional amount on both rooms since it was higher priced due to booking 1 week out from sailing. I didnt agree with that business practice. But it is what it is. Patty R Posted August 28, 2019 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2019 I just spoke with my cruise consultant at Carnival, and opted in for text alerts. I am leaving on Saturday from Tampa. At this point no cruises have been cancelled, and their next update will be tomorrow morning.

ZoeyVictoria Posted August 30, 2019 Author #13 Share Posted August 30, 2019 In an ironic twist, my casino offers expired at midnight last night. I’m sure there will be more coming, but I didn’t anticipate booking a cruise during the gap between offers. I might not be immediately booking the next Liberty sailing after all, though since I live in central Florida, I might be looking for a cruise next week in search of electricity and air conditioning.

Less likely but some yrs Major Hurricanes have happened in June and by this week one yr we were already to letter H and I named. Most time even with these ship at worst just steers around it and change a port or 2.
ZoeyVictoria Posted August 30, 2019 Author #16 Share Posted August 30, 2019 After a frantic two hours of booking a different cruise, transferring insurance, changing parking, and reprinting documents, I sincerely hope the the odds are with us next year and I don't have to repeat these actions 😁
