In all games players have lower odds than casino, but at least some are somewhat close. Black Jack, Craps ... I think in Black Jack you are 42 against Casino's 58. Slots are just more fun to us, tables are fast and you have to bet alot more money.

That's true if it's in one spin/one hand, depending on the odds of the game. You can win $5,000 and no declare it if its in 10, $500 wins, for example. True, so if you win you take the winnings out then continue playing to avoid those tax issues. 🙂
NaplesKnitter Posted September 10, 2019 #53 Share Posted September 10, 2019 I’m on the Equinox now and I have won playing slots and roulette past 2 nights. I’m up around $450 with only putting in around $50. We do have 3 match play perks thru Elite perks for roulette table.

Has anybody won anything playing slots? Whether on land or on a ship, THE CASINO ALWAYS WINS!! We sometimes go to the casino when on board; we take a couple of hundred bucks with us and we consider that money to spend on entertainment; not to try and beat the house.

Say you have $650 in the machine . . . perhaps you started with $100 and have a bunch of wins that have piled up. Or you've taken the same voucher from machine to machine, winning a bit here and there. If you hit for something over $1,200 IN ONE SPIN, you'll trigger what is called a hand pay. They come, pay you, make sure they have your id info correct and ss# etc, and give you a tax receipt for your the amount you one ON THAT SPIN. So after they reset the machine, your $650 will still be on the meter and ready to play or cash out. Also, you could play that $650 up to many thousands, and not trigger a tax-reportable win unless one of your spins hits for over $1,200.
micheleata Posted September 10, 2019 #57 Share Posted September 10, 2019 In February last year I couldn't stop hitting in the casino. I came home ahead for the trip. In September though, I couldn't hit anything!
NaplesKnitter Posted September 10, 2019 #58 Share Posted September 10, 2019 On this trip, I’m winning on the slots. I’m the type to leave after a good payoff. My husband has been watching football in the casino and I have been playing random machines. I even won $50 on the penny slots- just put $1 in... Everything said is correct and I would make a couple of additions. First, that win on the initial spin may include a bonus round. Let’s say you hit a bonus and win x number of free spins. Those spins continue your original spin winning the bonus games. That are all considered one spin and an accumulation of all those bonus wins can go over 1200 which triggers the hand pay. Also, not all cruise lines handle the tax form the same, some do nothing. I was in a slot pull and one person hit the hand pay, Celebrity did nothing. ipeeinthepool Posted September 11, 2019 #63 Share Posted September 11, 2019 Playing in the casino makes sense if you view it as entertainment with no expectation of winning over the long term. If you think you can win in the casino because you're smarter than the other players or the casino, then you are exactly the kind of person that Celebrity wants in the casino.
djh Posted September 12, 2019 #64 Share Posted September 12, 2019 We were on the Liberty a couple of weeks ago and the first night (or second, i can't remember) a woman won $15,000 on an 88 cent bet. Some said that it was like her first or second pull. The casino was busy the whole cruise ( over 300 prime members on) and although I didn't win, I did get a lot of play for my money. I also got massive headaches from the smoke, which is why I prefer Celebrity's casinos.
MISTER 67 Posted September 12, 2019 #65 Share Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) Down through the years I'm a loser at slots but ahead playing Blackjack. Most of the ships slot machines are pretty tight especially RCI and Celebrity. I've done pretty well on slots on MSC, not as tight. My wife won 400 dollars at slots on the old Noordam about 18 years ago and the next year won 300 more on the Veendam. Walked away from the machine both times with her winnings. My theory on slots is I'm only there for one reason, to get lucky and win some kind of jackpot like my DW did. mayleeman Posted September 12, 2019 #66 Share Posted September 12, 2019 The ability of people to lie to themselve and other about gambling is mind-breaking Someone did an exit survey outside a number of casinos years ago. A small percentage of people said they won. A small percentage said they lost. And something like 2/3 of the people said they just about broke even. If the answers represented reality, casinos would not be able to stay in business.
Debinnova Posted September 13, 2019 #67 Share Posted September 13, 2019 I was on Equinox last month and agree that the machines were tight, although I did see a young lady hit $3k on a $2.50 bet.
Cruiseincan Posted September 13, 2019 #68 Share Posted September 13, 2019 (edited) Been on 3 celebrity cruises in the past year and have seen the winnings go down and people grumbling. Guess they have to pay for these upgrade ships somehow! I have another cruise on celebrity coming up in November and this time I am taking 0 dollars to donate to the casino. If I'm not winning it's at least nice to see others win. It's not nice to see everyone lose and be pissed off. No thanks celebrity! Also seen food quality go down, but that's due to a new executive in charge of food at corporate. Someone please fire that guy. We are using the ship as a floating transportation / hotel, not looking forward to anything in it anymore, happy the cruise is very port intensive. People have been writing about food quality going down long before a new executive was hired by Celebrity and long before you joined this board. You are entitled to your opinion but how you can blame it on a new executive is beyond me. I remember in the late 90s when the food quality going down was blamed on the purchase of Celebrity by Royal.
