Rare patrickmoran Posted November 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2019 How is snorkel experience the on the trip The Boatyard offers with admission? Thanks
JohninDC Posted November 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2019 Pretty good. You snorkel over a ship wreck (French scuttled it during WWI) and the swim with the turtles for a bit.
soonernstlouis Posted November 22, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 22, 2019 (edited) We spent about 30 minutes at the shipwreck and about 15 minutes at the turtle swim in September. You literally could swim to the turtle area from shore but not the shipwreck if you don’t get enough. Both are worth the admission price and sea clarity at the 30’ shipwreck is amazing. hal2008 Posted January 1, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2020 AVOID Boatyard. They took money upfront and then told us that there was no spot on ANY of their turtle tours. And no refunds given (no chairs/umbrella either) AVOID boatyard. Plenty of other options in the area

Plenty of other options in the area Did something change at the Boatyard? Because when we went (and several years of reports), the Boatyard doesn't charge you extra to go out to snorkel with the turtles. It's included in your admission. Actually, I just looked it up to make sure and it's still included with your price. You DON'T pay extra. If you paid someone extra to go on a snorkel with the turtles then you were had by one of the locals trying to get people to go instead of the Boatyard itself. So it wasn't the Boatyard that ripped you off. ;)

They are as good as adjoining properties on light pax load (only 2-3 ships in port) It is about their unethical practices. Due to clever marketting (brochures in kiosks, website, promotion to ship crew), they have gotten good word of mouth (including here at CC) publicity. Their business model involves charging full money upfront whether one uses all services or not. That is fine. What is not kosher is them unable to deliver on services sold and then on top of it refuse the refunds. Adjoinig propertirs such as Harbor Lights charge only what you use and are upfront about what is available and what is not. This is not our singular experience but taxi drivers and port information desk reiterated that this is a known problem with Boatyard (when there are too many ships in port) Luckily both Citbank and Amex did lable Boatyard practice as unethical and forced them to refund the charged money. If we go back, we wil definetly avoid Boatyard and use Harbor Light or Pirate Grove or something similar (even Brandons Beach/Rascals) Edited January 17, 2020 by hal2008
