Brooklyn check in/boardking time

We are planning to take a cruise out of NY to Canada and Greenland in August so probably will be sailing out of Brooklyn Red Hook. It says that boarding starts at 3pm.  Does anyone have experience if it really is that late and if so when can you check in? Don't want to get there and have to sit for three hours.

Thank you

If you are on the Caribbean Princess then boarding should be normal. Boarding will begin around 11:30.

If you are on the Island Princess boarding may be delayed and might be as late as 3pm. The ship is arriving from Europe and is subject to Coast Guard, immigration and other regulatory inspections.

If you are referring to the progressive boarding notice, this is only a suggestion.

When we did this same cruise last August we were also told that boarding would start late, I think it was maybe 2pm.  We showed up at 1 and walked right on.  There were already many people on board, and some of them said that they boarded at the normal time of 11:30 or so.  YMMV but I would show up at whatever time your usually board.
