jpj39 Posted December 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2019 I am sailing from LA March 13 to Haiwai on Star Princess my question how should I get from LAX to Long Beach Marriott Residence Inn Taxi or hire a private car? what is the price of taxi? thanks for your help in advance Judy
cruzsnooze Posted December 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2019 (edited) Just to be clear---you know Princess sails from San Pedro NOT Long Beach so maybe you want to a hotel in San Pedro. The Doubletree Hilton and the Marriott in San Pedro has a free shuttle to the pier. Edited December 15, 2019 by cruzsnooze

jpj39 Posted December 15, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted December 15, 2019 Marriott doesn’t have a hotel in San Pedro only in Long Beach Residence inn is 5.2 miles away a taxi is not an issue
cruzsnooze Posted December 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2019 It's the Crown Plaza in San Pedro with a shuttle. I assume you need a Marriott for points or such. Another option could be to stay at the airport Marriott and go to the pier from there avoiding the extra cab ride from Long Beach to San Pedro. XBGuy Posted December 15, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 15, 2019 OP, let me guess. You prefer Marriott properties because you are using points for the stay. A perfectly reasonable plan. Take a cab/Uber/Lyft/Hired Car to the Residence Inn from LAX. FWIW, my wife and I like the Marriott Courtyard in downtown Long Beach. Mrs. XBGuy really likes the restaurant in the hotel (James Republic). Also, though, I really like the restaurant across the street (Utopia). Have a great cruise. Rare cr8tiv1 Posted December 15, 2019 #8 Share Posted December 15, 2019 Keep in mind that LAX began a new transportation system for shared vans and UBER/Lyft riders. https://www.flylax.com/lax-it In addition, Super Shuttle will cease operation at the end of the year. I would consider flying in to Long Beach Airport (LGB) instead of LAX.

We opted for Super Shuttle because we came in a day early. We took the Princess shuttle back to LAX. I'd never get into an Uber, and a taxi is very expensive. LAX is a nuightmare for taxis/Uber, etc. We came back from a Hawaii cruise on 12/4 and the traffic was horrible. Driver said the Uber cars were each going to get tickets for being in areas they're not suppose to be in. Super Shuttle was easy access for pickup. Took us 20 minutes to get to San Pedro. Uber & Lyft most likely killed them....who wants to share a van with multiple stops, when for a few bucks more you can ride non-stop all by yourself(s). https://skift.com/2019/12/13/ridehailing-competition-delivers-fatal-blow-to-airport-transport-service-supershuttle/
tanyaewa Posted December 15, 2019 #13 Share Posted December 15, 2019 Quite honestly it would help to know how many in your party? Recently we stayed in Long Beach - it’s a gorgeous area and we wanted a day to shop and explore. There were 4 of us. We took Uber from LAX to Long Beach and then an Uber to the port at San Pedro. When we returned we were a group of 8 so we rented a private van from Karmel Shuttles. San Pedro to LAX

Then do the Princess transfer would be my way to go unless you're coming in a day early. You can stay at a hotel near the airport and take the hotel shuttle back to the airport to catch the Princess transfer. We are doing this for our Alaska cruise. I just feel safer going that route. I have been wondering about doing that. How did you arrange the Princess transfer since you were not arriving on a plane that day? The Princess transfer might be the best option for us. If the shuttle to the ship is do-able, we'd rent a LAX-LAX car. We're coming in a few days early (Jan 2021) to spend time in SoCal visiting our old stomping grounds. We'll likely get a hotel near El Segundo (LAX).

Princess doesn't care when you arrive, just be at the airport on the day the ship leaves. We will get back to the airport (it's in walking distance), around 9:00 am or so. It works out for us as we're flying into Seattle. IMHO, it's not the easiest place to get around in and the Princess shuttle works for us. So, just make your way back to LAX (hotel shuttle, cab, Uber) on the day (morning) the ship leaves. There's always a Princess rep holding a sign that says "Princess Cruises." Just go to that person, give them your name, and they will escort you to the bus. Easy! BTW, LAX has changed their pickups. It was one big mess when we were there on 12/4. Take the traffic into consideration for getting back to the airport to get to the ship.

I am going to also check into flying into an alternate airport, but I'm not expecting to see much (from Memphis). LAX is a huge place....where did you go to find that Princess rep? Princess reps can be found wandering around the terminals holding a "Princess" sign. Some can be found down in the baggage claim area. The reps can also help you with your luggage. We always met up with a Princess rep down in the baggage claim area on the day the ship leaves. LAX is not that difficult to navigate. Just follow the signs to baggage claim. Look where you picked up your baggage, and when you return to the airport, go to where you picked up your luggage and a Princess rep should be there. We took Super Shuttle to our hotel in San Pedro, then the hotel took us to the ship. A Princess shuttle didn't work for us in that instance. We hear that Super Shuttle will be out of business on 12/31, so Princess is our choice.
