Are you allowed to bring guests in to the Yacht Club area?

Not discussed a lot but no.  It is similar to Haven.  Some reports of similar day packages for $100?? VS NCL dinner in Haven restaurant with permission from management.  Depending on ship, on MSC it would not be a big deal in public areas as they are much larger than Haven like on the newer ships.

Did see butlers escorting tours of yacht club a few times on our cruise a couple of weeks ago.

The short tour (15 minutes max.) of the Yacht Club was part of the “Behind the scene tour” on our Bellissima cruise in 04/2019.

With permission, you can bring them in to see your cabin. As far as just "hanging around" in the YC area, the answer is no. You can also pay to have someone join you in the YC restaurant for dinner (believe it is $50/pp w/permission) or sometimes you can buy day passes for friends @ $100/pp+ - limited availability.

 

Small tours are given on almost every cruise, but they are very short and the number of people is usually quite small.

I'm not really sure permission is needed just to go to cabin.  We have not had non YC guests in room but we have on NCL and in both cases just swipe through past doors and escort guests to room.  I hardly think MSC is going to send someone for a citizen's arrest for the twenty seconds someone is in the hall to your room.  I would have no problem doing it though on MSC either without asking in advance.  That being said, most rooms except the Royals are the size of a minisuite on NCL so really not much of a point to bring to room other than maybe if you want to share the cans of pringles and nuts in fridge that are reportedly going away.

YC is off-limit for Non-YC passengers without permission. We asked the YC Concierge and were kindly told that there are plenty of other ‘nice’ areas on the ship where we can meet Non-YC passengers. I am pretty sure it is written in the fine print of Yacht Club Terms & Condition not to bring Non-YC passengers into the YC.

We actually saw such a situation when on the Divina (last week).  One of the YC guests tried to bring some friends into the YC (we later heard they simply wanted to show them around) and were stopped by one of the Butlers.  We later chatted with the passenger who said the Butler told them visitors were not permitted unless authorized by the YC manager (which never happened).  The only visitors we saw during our 11 day cruise was on the last sea day when an authorized ship tour group was brought through the YC as part of their behind the scenes ship tour.  This also happened when we were on another cruise in the YC.  It is a weird feeling to be sitting in the Top Sail Lounge reading and enjoying a morning drink and suddenly find yourself on display to over 30 visitors.  One of the tour group approached us and asked if we liked being in the YC (our quick answer would be "very much.")

When you pay for a certain level of exclusivity, you don't want to be overrun with gawkers or others trying to take advantage of a free drink (or whatever).  We PAY for the privilege of more space and attentive service....so should anyone else that wants to enjoy the YC atmosphere.

Snobbish?  I guess in your world it could be argued that those in the YC pay more money to be an a "snobbish" atmosphere.  Consider that folks in the YC are often paying 3 times the price of many of those not outside the YC.  We pay to cruise in a relatively private enclave where there is no crowding, no fighting for deck chairs, amazing service, nobody asking to see our cruise card, etc.  Imagine if they would open up the YC to guests.  It would not be long before dozens (or more) of non-YC folks would be in the YC where they could get free drinks (for the asking), extra snacks, etc.  And suddenly we would not find empty sun beds, our service would degrade, etc.  You prefer to call it snobbism but I would call it "getting what you pay for."  You want to visit the YC....all you have to do is book a YC cabin :).

Having done 3 YC cruises this year totaling 56 days (I would not cruise outside YC), if people are paying for a tour I would prefer it to be on a port day when we are not using the sun beds . There were quite a few tours on Splendida Dubai to Tokyo of travel agents and Port personnel

If folks want to bring in friends they should have to pay for the privilege like we do ($100 pp seems OK) as YC doesn't come cheap.

Pretty sure we were in port when they had a tour in Nassau.  We were up by pool in June on Seaside but it was still pretty busy since Nassau a snooze port.

I just returned from Yacht Club on Divina and there was one occasion where a woman walked in behind a staff member and she was stopped before getting to the concierge. She didn’t understand English so they kept trying to explain to her what the area was.  She kept pushing to get by but eventually they got her to leave. I also saw one person getting a tour of the area.

On Meraviglia in Oct/Nov a lady gained access as someone hadn't made sure the door was closed on deck 16 as they cane through, she came into the Topsail Lounge ordered a cocktail and a coffee and sat and drank it before one of the butlers asked to see her cruise card!! This was probably day 6 of 13 days.

I brought a bunch of cruise critic folks to the YC on Divina to see my room as part of a CC member cabin tour. (I was able to snag one of the corner royal suites, the non-Sophia Loren one LOL) I brought them past the concierge desk and told the staff member they were just checking out my cabin and they didn’t appear to have a problem with it. After seeing my cabin they poked their head in the lounge and I walked them Up and out through the pool deck just so they could see a little bit of that. No one attempted to avail themselves of any of the YC amenities, maybe that’s why no one ever told me they couldn’t be there.

Now, you see? This is the sort of thing that happens when you allow the rowers their mandatory 30 minutes off their oars (thanks a lot, union!). They wander around getting into all sorts of mischief. Clap them in irons and throw them in the brig!  The dowager countess would be mortified!
