Idratherbeatsea Posted January 4, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2020 What is generally used ashore? Should we bring Australian and New Zealand currency?
By The Bay Posted January 4, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) We use the local $'s when we visit other countries. When down under, use the currency of the country you are visiting. Taxi drivers, and other, are very happy to take USD$ on a 1:1 exchange.😁 Edited January 4, 2020 by By The Bay

Some businesses in New Zealand will accept AUD (as you said), maybe because there are so many Aussie tourists and cruiseships going to NZ. I have come across several shops that have a sign in the window saying that they accept AUD. This is in the ports that cruise ships go to often. However, I don't think the reverse would apply. I don't think NZ currency would be accepted in Australia. I suggest that the reason is the relative size of the two countries and their economies, not that Aussies don't like New Zealanders! GUT2407 Posted January 4, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2020 I take. Few buck, NZ next week is $100NZ and grab more at an ATM if I need it, but most places take card and I only need some cash for small expenditures.
casofilia Posted January 4, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2020 Credit cards will be readily acceptable in both countries but you may get an extra charge for using one in Australia. Don't EXPECT to use AUD in NZ. Don't think of trying to use NZD in Aus.
Married15 Posted January 5, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2020 We recently visited Australia and New Zealand. Used our non exchange fee card everywhere. Some places showed the price in US currency, and our exchange rate was better using the VISA.
satxdiver Posted January 5, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2020 We use our VISA without exchange fee in all the countries we have visited. The cashless society is so easy these days. Only thing is to make sure your credit card does not add a conversion fee.
