jakkojakko Posted January 29, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2020 A fine example of docking in extreme conditions and using the anchor. It is not HAL but ms Nordnorgen in Bodo Norway and it will tell you why HAL sometimes foregoes a portstop. 2

Rare Alphen Posted January 29, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2020 (edited) Indeed an impressive video and action, since this is not a real cruise ship, but a regular passenger and postal service up and down the Norwegian coast, they have to make their stop and are less likely to skip the port. Evidently, it is not an unusual situation in Bodo, look on YouTube and you will find almost the same situation, same ship, same port from 2016! They probably have sufficient practice in the location and type of weather. Edited January 29, 2020 by Alphen
cat shepard Posted January 29, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2020 (edited) Bravo! Even if the crew did this same maneuver every minute for an entire year, they would still earn a bravo from me. Edited January 29, 2020 by cat shepard

It makes you think what HAL would do if it was the turn around port though. My guess is they would delay untill the storm had died down. Or more likely make use of the very well equiped forecasting and arrive earlier, which we have experienced.
