Anyone concern about the Coronavirus and cruising

We're cruising on the Horizon on March 15th out of Miami. Now that the Princess ship in quarantine, I am getting really concerned for our cruise. We will have our two year old and six year old with us...an extended quarantine in the cabin would be pretty impossible for longer than a day. I wish Carnival was offering an option even for us to put what we paid into a future cruise credit, if they were we would probably do it instead of taking the risk to cruise and end up in an extended quarantine with two young kids.

I wish they would offer this also. I would gladly accept a 100% future cruise credit valid for a year. I have 2 weeks to cancel and “only” lose $1k. My suspicion is i will be canceling.

guest who booked prior to March 6, 2020, if you decide to change vacation plans, we will allow those booked on sailings between now and May 31 to move their booking to a new date and receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) in the amount of the non-refundable cancellation fee.

Try calling Carnival asap!!!

Not one bit.    Our cruise is on the Breeze in April and this will be our 11th.

Just like any other illness that goes around, I am not going to worry about this.

(knock on wood), I have never gotten sick from a cruise, or airline or any other mass vacation, and I never get sick in my every day encounters.   I am 52, DD is 14 and Mom is 78.   I have to say, we have really strong immune systems (and we aren't germaphobes who use disinfectant sprays or wipes or preventive meds for vitamins either).

So how did your Cruise go?  I guess your cruise was canceled.  We all now know what is keeping Cruise Executives up at night.  I hope you will rebook soon and get your 11th Cruise.

Was actually onboard pride the 1st week of February. It was business as usual. Was supposed to be back on Pride August 30, but that was cancelled. We shifted it to Vista instead.

THe only concern I have is people will cruise if they are sick that is what happens when there is a norovirus outbreak  on a cruise ship guests bring it on the ship. Now with coronavirus it is different  symptoms may show up for two weeks after you're infected.

However there is a way to get around this, everybody that is going on that cruise ship gets tested say two days before the sailing date. If every one test is negative so when they board the ship there should be nobody that is infected with coronavirus. What do you think?

and what happens if you get this test, get a negative and then walk into the grocery store and infected person sneezes on you as you're walking down the bread isle?  Now you're infected but you JUST got a negative test result earlier in the day...

Short of testing everybody every single day of the cruise, they have to draw the line somewhere.  It is reasonable to test people before boarding and also take temperatures.  If someone has symptoms during the cruise, they can be confined to their cabin like every other person with a contagious disease.   Since this virus is already everywhere in the world, there is no reason to quarantine an entire ship.

I think it just needs to be worked out what to do with a sick person during the cruise and how to have them get off of the ship at the end of the cruise.

I agree! We are booked on 08/17/20 Galveston Dream. Th ship is going but we will be cancelling. We drive to the port, but our adult kids & grandchildren were flying in. So if they get tested in Michigan & are negative, fly to TX, shuttle bus to Gal. hotel, dinner out & then shuttle to ship in the morning. How many opportunities to get infected before you get onboard?

You could go to approved testing stations in you town and get documentation of the test to be provided at check for your cruise. This is not going to be easy all the test would show that you negative at time of testing, that is true, so would have to use your best judgement limiting contact  with other people before you check in. It is not going to be easy but you have to start somewhere.

You can get a test now if you are rich.  Or a politician.  Or a sports star.  Or a team of sports stars. Or maybe, just maybe,  if you are already displaying severe symptoms of the virus.  But the idea that tests are  readily available for anyone who wants one??   Not true a month ago.  Still not true a  week ago.  And probably not true for weeks or months going forward.  None of our great leaders seem to care about getting out those all important tests.  :-(

I agree with you on all the above tests should be made available to anyone that wants it just like the flu vaccine is available to anyone that wants it. In the case of cruise ships you do not have to go on a cruise that is you choice however you have to follow their rules whether you like it or not  so we'll have to sit back and see how this plays out

But you know don't that ,the same thing could happen with a person with the flu or a common cold and even norovirus you could go on and on so where do you stop. I think the bigger question is the restrictions that will be in place  when on the cruise ship will there be masks, social distancing in the dining room, the casico, how about the shows ? . I don't think that would be a very fun cruise, do you ?

This is not even close to the flu or common cold. Getting tested days ahead of a cruise is useless and not practical. My DIL is a social worker in a nursing home and she can not get a test. They have 7 positive patients, we are worried sick

thats exactly my  point.   someone suggested that a doctors note be acquired prior to boarding - showing that you were COVID-free...   I was saying that it would be an impossible thing, because you could be exposed AFTER you are tested and before you board your ship.

I think that if you are going to go on a cruise, you are accepting the risk.  If you go to the shows, the casino and eat in the MDR with other guests nearby, you are accepting the risk and it is ON YOU to protect yourself.  Wash up folks!!   The cruiseline will be ensuring that the silverware we get in the MDR is sanitized and bacteria free - that the plates we are being served on are clean, etc.  If you choose to eat at the buffet where you'll be butt-to-nose with other passengers, it's totally on you to take precautionary measures and you need to be prepared for any consequences.

the cruise line only has so much responsibility - at some point, it's GUESTS need to take on some accountability of their own.

Agree with everything but shouldn't that same responsibility go with opening a  business  yet the Governors of states shut down businesses and put restrictions on them to reopen. The public in general is not stupid you do not go on a cruise, or go to a restaurant, movie theater the list goes on and on but you should make that choice the government should not make it for you. You are accepting the risk  but that is your choice but for some odd reason the government thinks they know what's best for us.If the cruise lines start sailing again and people start getting or worse it will be a different ballgame.
