Most In Demand Itineraries and Ships?

I keep looking to see how many cabins are still available for my Alaskan cruise this summer, which had me thinking: what are the most in demand itineraries for Princess? Is it the once in a lifetime longer cruises like Antarctica?

 

And ignoring when a new ship joins the fleet, are there certain ships that sell out more than others because people like it more?

 

I would absolutely love to see stats, but I have a sneaking suspicion Princess might not want to release those. 😉

I don't know the answer, but I would assume 7-day cruises from US ports are the most in demand because they're the least expensive and non-retirees may not be able to take a longer vacation than 7 days.  One way to ascertain this would be to count up the cruises for each itinerary and ship from the major ports of Fort Lauderdale (Carib itin) and Los Angeles (Mex. itin).  Alaska is quite in demand, but (a) it's a short season and (b) Princess only has a few ships up there.  Alaskan cruises can depart from SF (for a 10-day) and Vancouver (for a 7-day).  I don't know why Princess would not want to release such info.  I assume the Caribbean "hosts" the most cruises because multiple Princess ships sail there from Fort Lauderdale most of the year.

The corporation has it figured out pretty well, that's why they move the ships around the world.

One Itinerary which is always sold out soon after release is the 28 night circumnavigation of Australia

 

Also cost per day is higher than other cruises on the same ship in the same area.....

 

Two reasons for this

very few  circumnavigation of Australia

and sun/sea princesses attract people because of their smaller size

The British Isles cruises and Scandinavia/Russia cruises also are very popular. Both itineraries are excellent.

Select a few different ships, with different voyages for the same cabin category. Ascertain the cost per person per night...then compare.  
 

My experience, you will see quite a variance.  I assume driven by demand and availability.

This will tell you some information  the bigger the drop the more cabins left you may have to fish around to find the site.

The Golden is also sailing out of LA to Alaska on a 14 day cruise on 7 different voyages this year

Interesting!  Lot of sea days:  6  Ports:  7.  We like sea days so would consider that itinerary, but a lot of folks don't like them so much.  Wonder how well they're selling although it's quite early for many potential pax.

We were booked on the Aug 8 sailing and were lucky to snag the last window suite. We ended up having a vacation conflict and decided to move to the June 27 sailing instead. We had a bit more choice of windows suites to pick from and I noticed that the Aug 8 sailing now shows zero suites available. 

 

The June 27 sailing was about $500 pp less for a WS compared to the Aug 8 sailing, so I’m guessing that the later sailings are proving to be more popular as the 13 June sailing was even less than our date. I opted for the June 27 date as the cruise included July 4, so I get to save a days vacation out of my annual leave.

I don’t know which ships are the most popular, but according to an email that I received from Princess at Christmas titled “Let’s recap the reasons to be jolly this season ...” it appears that Alaska is the most popular itinerary.  I was very surprised to see more passengers to Alaska than the Caribbean.

Not a surprise. Princess has 11 ships doing Alaska itineraries but only 4 doing Caribbean itineraries.

Those are really interesting stats! We've never taken Priness before, but decided they were the ones to take to Alaska, so here we are!

 

I always imagined the really long, interesting cruises would sell out rather quickly. But then, you have to be able to be gone for a long period of time.

 

I'll probably just keep checking the Alaskan itineraries as we get closer just to see details. I imagine that the Coral would be the best selling ship, but people might go for new/shiny more than I do.

we received the email from Princess on December 22, 19.  It was listing statistics “that made Princess shine in 2019”.

Bill, I just went thru the Princess Alaska cruises for 2020 and 2021 and I only come up with 8 ships doing Alaska:  Coral, Emerald, Regal, Royal, Ruby, Sapphire, Star, Sun.  What are the other 3 ships?  Thanks!
