This article doesn't cover the case where a cruise line denies you boarding either because you've recently been to China (absurd), or because you happen to have a fever when you attempt to board.  Some cruise lines are now doing this, and are referring people to their insurers.  Not sure about Viking.

On our recent cruise to SE Asia, Viking quarantined my wife for two days because she had a minor fever.  We respected that decision -- cruise lines like Viking should be proactive when treating and managing onboard illness.  So it comes as no surprise that lines are similarly proactive when dealing with possible exposure to coronavirus, including exposure that occurs before boarding.  What they're doing in response to the outbreak certainly isn't "absurd."

We have a Transatlantic cruise on Viking scheduled for mid-March.  Below is a message from Royal Caribbean on dealing with the Corona virus.  Does anyone know if Viking is taking a proactive stance toward travelers and crew members boarding their ships similar to Royal Caribbean?

Wuhan Coronavirus Travel Restrictions:

UPDATED ON FEBRUARY 3, 2020

After consultation with medical experts and public health authorities, regardless of nationality, any guest or crewmember traveling from, to, or through mainland China or Hong Kong less than 15 days prior to their sailing will be unable to board any of our ships.

Additionally, we’ve tightened our secondary health screening requirements and the following guests will need to undergo extra screenings to ensure safety at the cruise terminal:

  • ∙ Anyone that has been in contact with individuals that have traveled from, to, or through mainland China or Hong Kong in the last 15 days.
  • ∙ Anyone that holds a Chinese or Hong Kong passport – regardless of when they were there last.
  • ∙ Anyone that feels unwell or demonstrates flu-like symptoms.

These measures will help reduce the potential for the virus to further spread, and will ensure the health of our guests and crew. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Thanks in advance.  David

the secondary health screenings are relying heavily on "self reporting".  I am skeptical and think many will be selfish and "go on their vacation"  and hope for the best!
