Is it the 66 that were taken off recently? Communication right now is tough as their internet is really bad.

Since the Pearl is around a 2400 capacity ship the reporting limit would have been 72 passengers. Quite a bit less than the 1,000 you are stating. a bit of hyperbole it seems. A group of my friends were on the Pearl TA in April. Several in that group were sick but didn't report bk they had brought meds from home. They also didn't want to be confined to the cabin. They told me that indeed many more were sick than were reported. They told me that they thought yes over 1000 were sick. And true ,they said that the ship was a ghost town. BTW we almost booked that trip.
NorthwestCruiser Posted February 11, 2020 #1104 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Does anybody know how they are dealing with towels and bedding (which are biohazards at this point)? Do they just drop off new ones and you remake the cabin yourself, putting the used items in a triple sealed bag? From the CDC: Avoid sharing personal household items You should not share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, or bedding with other people in your home. After using these items, they should be washed thoroughly with soap and water. How to avoid the coronavirus

As posted earlier there have been no announcements on ship regarding new cases since two days ago. If there have been no new cases it would seem that the captain and Princess would so announce. The last news from Princess was on Feb 9. The lack of new announcements leaves me concerned.

posh crew Posted February 11, 2020 #1107 Share Posted February 11, 2020 I find it really strange that we are not getting any information about this cruise ship now. There is no mention on any News sites that I can find in the UK. I know there are other news stories but it has gone very very quiet. Are the authorities not wanting the general public to know what is going on and is that why the Internet is poor on the ship right now?
ed01106 Posted February 11, 2020 #1108 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Should have been doing outsourced delivery since day one. One infected crew member in the kitchen could infect the entire ship. 1

Princess was making daily announcements on their webpage: https://www.princess.com/news/notices_and_advisories/notices/diamond-princess-update.html But nothing has been posted or announced on ship since Feb 9. Again, if there are no new cases it would seem that Princess would disclose that information, it would be good news. The lack of new disclosures makes me concerned. On most cruises, the Captain is introduced as the "Master of the Vessel"...does he have any say on what is being done on "his" ship? The master would be very aware of the rules of quarantine and the need for it. It would be part of his training.

I have lived overseas and found the public health care very good. In fact in the USA I have been treated for the same condition at a private hospital and a public hospital. The care was superior in the public hospital. The one thing that the private hospitals specialize in is the walletectomy. 1
DeltaBreeze Posted February 11, 2020 #1116 Share Posted February 11, 2020 I don't think anyone on the ship is taking photos of what's going on in the port right now. The Diamond Princess bow cam shows that the ship is at sea. https://www.princess.com/bridgecams/

David Abel talked in one of his videos a day or two ago about how they'd gotten new bedding. I don't recall him mentioning any details but from the way he talked about it in passing, it sounded like they dropped it off and the passengers change out the sheets themselves. Not sure what they do with the dirty ones, I don't think he mentioned that.

Do they get Captain Circle credit for all these days at least? Ha, finally a proper Cruise Critic question! 🙂 I haven't seen it mentioned. Does Princess have a policy for what happened when cruises are extended for other reasons, like if there's a bad storm and engine problems or whatever, and the ship is out an extra day or two before returning to port? I assume it's come up at some point before but I don't know.
kathy49 Posted February 11, 2020 #1121 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Well 6:42 am in Japan....I hope David comes on with some sort of update...he usually does in the morning. Clearly very little communication is coming from the ship which is concerning. Hopefully people will post if they hear any updates.

Any burden that can be shifted off ship should. Rather than launder sheets and towels buy new ones and pile up the soiled ones in the casino or something. The food prep thing is very concerning ...I have to think that many passengers on board are questioning this and wonder what kind of answers they are getting. I noted clean towels in video and they must be changing those out as well as the sheets. When David shows the tray from meals I am not sure how much the food is covered outside of the entree. So much is really unknown.
EDVM96 Posted February 11, 2020 #1123 Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) Did you realize that the Diamond bridge cam has been turned to the left by someone? It was always straight forward, now it looks to the port side of the ship. I bet it's because visitors shall not see all the ambulances parked at the pier... The Washington Post summary is one of several articles describing the dismal conditions of the crew and Princess reaction has not been in their best interest.
