Captain Vancouver Posted February 13, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2020 John and Jan from New Westminster here. We did a 7-day from Vancouver return in 2018 on the Westerdam, last cruise of the season, and enjoyed it so much we've gone for double the fun. Looking forward to trying a smaller ship at the beginning of the season. Anyone have any advice about the Maasdam?

The Maasdam is a smaller and older ship, well maintained, but without some of the features of the newer ships (older TV’s, dvd player, no kids club). The 14 day itinerary is highly regarded and goes to some ports that the larger ships cannot. The food is good, the staterooms comfortable, the service outstanding as on all HAL ships. The lectures and entertainment should be focused on Alaska culture. It sails round trip from Vancouver in 2020 which means it will sail the smoother route inside Vancouver Island. Rare erewhon Posted February 14, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2020 On February 3rd, we disembarked from the lovely Maasdam, we enjoyed our third cruise on this ship. We would be happy to sail on Maasdam in the future.
iancal Posted February 15, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2020 Ex Massey Heights person here.......spend as much or more time researching the ship and matching to your preferences as you do selecting a cruise line. Lots of good data in the ship review section.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 15, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2020 If you are doing the 14 day Alaskan cruise, we did that itinerary on the Amsterdam -- twice -- and loved it.
arabrab Posted February 15, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2020 We loved our cruise on the Maasdam -- smaller size, lovely deck to walk around, wonderful crew.
