ranchette Posted February 22, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2020 I had $250 worth of on board credit not realizing it was non refundable. Everyday I checked my balance on the TV and it was credited to my balance from my daily service charge. On debarkation day I received my bill and the OBC was added all back on to my bill. I have another cruise planned next year and wonder if the OBC can be credited to that cruise. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? only suggestion is to be more aware of what your OBC is....... $250 lesson learned that "non-refundable" actually means non-refundable

Lacking anything suitable to purchase with the non-refundable OBC best move is to purchase the CNcs before 10pm the last night of the cruise - AND THEN THE CN OBC CAN BE USED TO OFFSET THE DSC ! You will perhaps still be giving back to NCL the remainder of any unused non-refundable OBC. Even better idea do this a few days before cruise end so when you check your on board account you can see if the credits/debits are applied correctly - waiting to the last minute am of disembarking is almost fruitless - those darn computers don't have any mercy in applying the credits after the account is considered closed. At 4am the day of disembarking you receive your final invoice at your cabin door - your account is now closed as far as NCL is concerned - it will seem like that - while you wait in line with others at guest services to make the final final adjustments. Be pro-active about monitoring your account - you can't take non-refundable OBC with you or off the ship for even your next NCL cruise.

julig22 Posted February 23, 2020 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2020 Non-refundable OBC is just that. However, it might be worth an e-mail to NCL post-cruise customer support and ask them if they would be willing to exchange your abandoned credits for the 2 CN certificates that you could have bought while on-board. Nothing ventured nothing gained - the worst they could do is say no or not respond. In their favor, you might then book another cruise or two that you wouldn't have considered if you didn't have the certificates. In your favor, you could book another cruise or sell them. Certainly worth the 10 minutes to draft an email, just don't be too disappointed if nothing comes of it.
SouthLyonCruiser Posted February 23, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 23, 2020 I go to the gift shop the day before the end of the cruise and get nice, but overpriced, stuff that I can use. I got a $30 insulated mug (very nice) for myself and a $12 key chain with the ship on it for my grandson. You can always get a couple of tee shirts for working or painting around the house. esm54687 Posted February 23, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 23, 2020 You also have the ability to go to the casino and download the OBC to a machine and cash out (minus the 3% fee)......... quick and easy.

I wish i'd found out about this method of "cashing out" years ago. I found myself going to the gift shops and buying t-shirts and other things I really didn't need. Now, I'm right with you. I usually get about $250 of non refundable OBC and go right to the casino, charge to room, then cash out the ticket. OK, yea, I pay about 6 bucks or so, but i like that cash in hand. I like to call it "free" money, but I really know better.

AFAIK, Non-refundable OBC cannot be used in the casino. Refundable OBC can be used (and cashed out as you've indicated).

I asked about this on another thread a couple of months ago prior to a January cruise, and while some folks claim they’ve done that cash-out with non-refundable OBC, at least one other person said it was charged back to their account on the morning of disembarkation. Given that, I decided not to take a chance, and used our non-refundable OBC for two Cruise Next Certificates, which my PCC has since applied to an existing booking. A really good use of that OBC.
