LongHill44 Posted February 28, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2020 I was tempted to book a few months back but held off as we are trying to giving my daughter, and our family, a nice graduation gift. We are looking at islands as well, but my daughter really loved the cruise we went on last year. But with everyone panicking about what is going Any idea if the prices will drop? Will people cancel and open up rooms that will be cheaper? Thoughts?
VentureMan_2000 Posted February 28, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2020 I would think it would depend on the itinerary... where were you thinking of cruising ?
Rare PrincessArlena'sDad Posted February 28, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2020 Ours has dropped in price every week since mid January, $30-$40 per week. Well, for one of two cabins. The other category is sold out for a party of 2 (though the category has tons of availability for 3 or 4 people). I'm hoping they open up some rooms for 3-4 people to groups of 2 before my PIF date, and then swoop in for a huge price drop. Right now, for 2 people, the only interior cabins available are on decks 1 and 2. But, if you look for 3-4 people, there are tons of interior cabins all over the ship. It's really bizarre. Lil2Angelic Posted February 28, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2020 If you book the early saver rate at a price that you feel comfortable with and there's a price drop in your cabin category you can apply for a credit or balance reduction depending on how far out your cruise is. I've been watching for price drops and have seen some but not like what I would expect based on all the news and stock market drops. I think some people may be canceling but then there are others who are waiting to jump on the great deals. In the past we've seen some great pack and play casino rates being offered. $25 for an inside cabin..$50 for an oceanview..$250 for a balcony cabin etc..I've been watching and haven't anything like that yet. Joebucks Posted February 28, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 28, 2020 Normally, I would say June/July prices are only going to skyrocket. I don't think the Coronavirus stuff is going to cause the price to fall much, but there is definitely the chance. It would take a legitimate problem in the US for that to happen. Which is currently not happening
adventuredancer Posted February 29, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 29, 2020 we have a MED cruise for may. the price for a balcony dropped 900$ from when we first booked. that was in the past 2 weeks once we hit the 90 day mark and COVID19 became larger. our ship also has had a bunch of people drop out
M2LR Posted March 1, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 1, 2020 I've been getting price drops on our July cruise but I've gotten them in the past too so nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary. There is only one left in my category right now for 4 people so I am almost to the end of price adjustments unless something opens up.

Rare SRQbeachgirl Posted March 1, 2020 #11 Share Posted March 1, 2020 Our cruise in May hasn't dropped at all, but I did notice that a couple of cabins in our category (Spa Balcony) opened up that had been sold out before. I attribute that to the fact that we just hit the final payment date, rather than Pandemic Panic Syndrome.
skiorcruise Posted March 2, 2020 #12 Share Posted March 2, 2020 Always a chance, but the best bet is to book it now and check the price at least once a week for price drops. My September cruise from Venice to Barcelona (12 days) has actually gone up in price.

It would take a legitimate problem in the US for that to happen Joe, I’ve seen quotes where you’d think these folks want a serious domestic pandemic to occur all in the name of them saving a few dollars. My October cruise category continues to be sold out & I don’t anticipate enough cancellations to occur to affect pricing since there are only 12 HI category rooms to begin with. Would rather everyone who can comfortably make a cruise do so anyway. Edited March 2, 2020 by soonernstlouis

We sailed over the last 4th- an 8 day on the Horizon, booked probably 18 months out and it still cost us $6500- less gratuity, etc. That trip from VT to Miami, inclusive of lodging for 6 of us was a whopping $10,000. This 4th my husband and I are cruising solo out of NYC on a 9 day Journeys to Eastern Caribbean. We booked Early Saver when we got back so a year out and it was $2400- we have so far had two price reductions so are now at a total paid of $2189! It’s a STEAL! Inside cabin on Lido. webzila Posted March 10, 2020 #20 Share Posted March 10, 2020 I have an Alaska cruise booked in Jun. The total for balcony, taxes, gratuities is now $265 less than what I booked. I haven't made the final payment yet. However, trying to call Carnival now - their phone system is completely down and just tells you to call back later. (Final payment due tomorrow). Hope I can get through.
lensonlife Posted March 10, 2020 #21 Share Posted March 10, 2020 I can hardly believe it, but I just checked the rates and saved another $160 for a total of $390. Our 9 day cruise is now at $112 person/day!

I would not give up- keep checking. I was feeling grateful (and like a lucky winner lol) with the initial findings of reduced pricing. But then the pricing gradually started to go up again and even just this morning it higher. And then boom, this afternoon $160 less! I hope you get a deal, too! The little extra is nice.
