a3593 Posted March 11, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2020 How can you effectively compare for price drops if your category gets sold out? We have 4J inside cabins booked. I did a mock booking and discovered a price drop, and it said there was one cabin left. The ship only has 6 of these cabins, and we don't cruise until July. Chances are it will get booked. (Perhaps, with all that is going on...) But anyway, if all of the 4J cabins get booked, how can I check for price drops? I booked through a TA by the way. Best to contact that TA. They should know.
Bases5 Posted March 11, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2020 In my experience you cannot re price if your category is sold out. However if a higher category is open and the price is lower you can upgrade to the lower price. The drawback is you have to relocate and you might not like the new location.
ypcat Posted March 11, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2020 Why would the price drop if the category is filled? If there is no availability, you can't reprice unless you upgrade to a higher category.
a3593 Posted March 11, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted March 11, 2020 Ypcat, good point. I dont think I clearly communicated my confusion. I am referring to inside cabins. So if, for example, if I see a price drop on the inside cabins that the ship hasn't sold out of, I am wondering how can I determine if I can obtain that drop. I surmise I can't, since each cabin category also has its own pricing structure. I am on hold with my TA now....

Also, please let me know how long the TA had to wait on hold with Carnival. I will be calling my TA about a price drop also, but would like a heads up about hold times, please. a3593 Posted March 11, 2020 Author #9 Share Posted March 11, 2020 OK. So the hold time was over an hour so I opted for the live chat option. I waited for maybe 45 minutes before someone came on. Because I am before final payment, they reduced what I owe. Basically, I don't know if this was a drop in the true sense of the word, because they just changed me to Early Saver rate, vs the fully refundable rate. But, it was lower so I will take it! I also got an extra $25 OBC. I don't know how--I just graciously accepted. 🙂 I think because CCL has a promo with a $25 OBC with every booking. As far as price drops when your specific category is sold out but similar cabins aren't and have dropped in price, they said technically you can't get the new rate but to just call if you see something. This is because they may be able to do something anyhow.

a3593 Posted March 11, 2020 Author #11 Share Posted March 11, 2020 Hi bloop123, I booked through a travel agent. The chat was with them. I am willing to bet there is some option to chat CCL, since call volumes are so high right now.
Rare PrincessArlena'sDad Posted March 12, 2020 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2020 I'm pretty sure there's no option to chat with carnival.
mirglip69 Posted March 12, 2020 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2020 Other than a mock booking, is there another way to check prices on a specific category?
