Time to start counting down, Lois! I'm at 43 days until my next cruise, but my next vacation starts in 2 - camping for a week with my partner.

Have fun🙂.....are you camping at a "Campsite"? And where are you going?

We're going to a nearby conservation area, only about an hour away from home. It's glamping, really - car camping, with massive tent, gazebo for sitting without getting eaten by bugs, only a 20 minute drive from a grocery store, and running water available nearby.

I have to wait a little longer to go camping.  Nearby mountains 40 minutes away have mosquitos and biting flies galore this year that will carry away small children.  Too freakin' hot down south (100+ degrees).  Up north, bears are coming out of hibernation and lots of mommas with cubs around (the lady who just got mauled by a bear at Yellowstone...).

Went to my dental hygienist yesterday and my hair stylist today.   Clean teeth and newly colored hair (we did more copper hi-lights).   Did a minor TJ's run yesterday.  Saw those chocolate thingies, but noticed they were made with corn chips, which I can' stand.  I'd have to pick them out.  Plus, they would have melted all over while I drove up the mountain!  Nothing out of the ordinary and under $100 again. Just wasn't feeling it,   I haven't had much of an appetite lately - probably the med that all the rich women are buying to lose weight.  I don't WANT to lose any more weight - I can't afford to keep buying new things to fit!!

OOTD:  my baggy, but luvable, denim shorts and a Pact organic cotton tank top.  And, my pink hi-tops.

I expect there will be quite a few bugs, but that's what the gazebo is for!

My little 2 person tent doesn't have a gazebo ☹️   That's the one negative about solo camping - you can only put up certain things by yourself.   I could leave off the rain fly and unzip the windows and there's quite a bit of netting, but sitting inside my little tent for hours just isn't my thing.

Melody - nice food porn!  Those tomatoes with the fish look mighty tasty.   Is that Maine blueberry pie and ice cream??  I'm on a blueberry kick right now - it is my favorite fruit!

Hi girls, well, I keep thinking about trying a carry on and a mid size tote bag for my upcoming cruise but I keep thinking I just won't have enough room for what I want to bring. This is a 12 night cruise with 2 nights extras......one pre-cruise and one post so I really will be away a full 2 weeks.  I know have seen tons of threads of gals who only travel with a carry on bag.

This is a really different itinerary (If that matters).....going to multiple ports in Ireland and Scotland and I know the weather in those places is normally cooler (but these days you never know).

My normal packing is one 25 inch checked bag and a carry on.

Any thoughts about trying to change? Just curious really. I know I could have started a whole new thread but ya'll always help out on here with these things🙂

Oh, I get free laundry on board.

Hi Lois,

I take a 21 inch bag on my trips plus a lightweight tote for things like medications, cosmetics, small items that don't fit in the suitcase. I need a bag I can handle. I have different size totes depending on what doesn't go into the suitcase.  Also if I'm taking a flight, I pack at least underwear and a top in case my suitcase is not at my destination. This size works for me whether I am cruising out of Florida or Boston or flying. I have done Alaska and British Isles with clothing for cooler climates and have had no problem. But everyone is different and I like to travel light.

If you get laundry,  you could send sleepwear, undies or tops you feel comfortable sending out.

Also the way you pack can make a difference. Some people roll their clothes, double fold or put them in packing cubes. I bought some and will try these out next month.

Lois - I'm trying to figure out if I can tell you how I pack in my carry on.  Part of it is the type of clothes and part of it is that I roll and put in packing cubes.  My Woolx and Smartwool is very light, easily packable and "unstink"able.  I can wear multiple times.  I take (usually) just one dress, my trusty Tshirt dress,  Also easily packable and unstinkable.  My shoes - I don't have a problem with wearing my sneakers out at night.  I'm a pretty casual traveler.  I'll keep thinking.

Remember my girlfriend that I was going to maybe take to Italy but then her family took her this year for her birthday?  Well, poor thing, just got a message from her that she broke her ankle & ligaments trying to ride a bike with sandals on on the cobblestones of Florence!!   She flew back home to have surgery.  She has a long road ahead, just like I did:  6 weeks non-weightbearing, another surgery to take out screws, months of getting back to full weightbearing and tons of rehab.  I told her at least she has a good story to go along with the break.  I'll probably take a trip down to So, CA to see her after she gets the screws out. Her one daughter is coming out for 2 weeks in August to help and her other daughter lives nearby.  I remember what it was like to be basically immobile and alone for months.

Another hot, miserable day up here - 89. So OOTD:  gym shorts and a Tshirt.

With the exception of 3 days, it's been over 90 here for the entire month of July. I'm so over it.

Iceland/Greenland daily highs hover around 55 degrees. 🙌

I generally wear tinted moisturizer rather than foundation, I like the sheerer look. Unfortunately, ever since my beloved "old" formulation of Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer was discontinued, I've been on a long search for a replacement that was similar. I've tried many, many others in the intervening 3-4 years, but I think I've finally found a replacement I like. Thought I'd post it here since I know others have used and liked the LM one -- it was the "holy grail" for many.  (The new LM version is terrible by comparison.)

So my new go-to is Nars brand's Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It's sheer but not too sheer, is easy to apply, and seems to last fairly well on me. Many of the other brands I've tried have visibly settled in my pores -- this one is much better (though still not QUITE as good as the old LM in that regard).

They do have a somewhat limited range of colors, but because it's a tinted moisturizer, it doesn't have to be an absolutely true match. I used to use the LM in the "Nude" shade, and in the Nars my closest shade is called Alaska -- which frightened me at first as it sounds deadly pale, but surprisingly it isn't. I'm what you'd call Fair but not extremely pale.

Cynthia - "back in the day" when I worked at Front Desks where I had to wear more makeup than I do normally (yes, I was told once that I needed to wear more!!), I used Laura Mercier, too.    I tried some Urban Decay last summer when my face was so totally ghost white - it was a nice color but irritated my face.   I'll give Nars a try to put in my drawer for those times when I need a little boost.

Hey, is there room for me in your suitcase??  Or, I'll pack myself in my Allpa and pay the checked baggage fee!!!  I am sooooo over this heat!!

I forgot to mention one of my TJ's finds.  If you like Root Beer Floats, try their Root Beer ice cream bars!!  When it's hot, I'll buy different bars just so I can have a cooling snack.  This one really does taste like a RBF!!!

OOTD;  my running shorts and a sleeveless tshirt.  At this point, I don't care how it looks...

I will definitely look for those!

I still remember my dad introducing me to root beer floats when I was around 7 years old. I couldn't believe something so good existed!

I was looking at the clothes I would normally bring on a cruise and then I was looking at the carry on........at this point there is no way it would all fit in that 21 inch bag. And yes, I would also bring a mid size tote bag. But as for the clothes? For 2 weeks. I guess 3 or or 4 pair of slacks (if I was to cut back).

I would alternate those bottoms every night. I am probably making more out of this than it really is but I am always used to bringing a checked bag. Will think about it some more. Oh, I would not wear those slacks during the day so I would still have to bring at least 3 pairs for daytime/ship/touring.....

Just not sure a carry on bag will work for me.😮
