Is it possible to use OBC pre cruise to purchase excursions?

I haven't cruised on Carnival since 2015.  I have 2 upcoming cruises that I qualified for the OBC ($300 on one, $600 on another).  I wanted to burn some of it precruise on an excursion.  I couldn't purchase the excursion online with OBC so I called Carnival.  Carnival rep said that you cannot use OBC pre cruise.  I was surprised because I have always been able to on RCCL which is where I normally cruise and Celebrity also.  Is this true?

You cannot on carnival, only on royal. They told you correctly.

Never knew that but after thinking about it it makes sense because if you prebook they will apply it to your credit card. Just wait and if you want use the casino method and cash in for money on obc.

You can also use OBC before the cruise with Princess.
