Help with Shore Excrusion w/5 year old in Cozumel

Took our granddaughter to a dolphin encounter when she was that age.  Dolphin Discovery does a great job at Chankanaab Park plus you get full use of the (tiny) sheltered beach, and a small fresh water pool and lunch.

You can book this through the cruise line but I would recommend booking direct.  Cheaper and it includes entrance to the Park.  Various options will also get you their photo package cheaper (costs around $100 for your group if you buy it there - they will soak you for whatever they can but do take good pictures).  Depending on her height she could be free with adult admission.  You will need to take a cab there and back for around $20 each way plus tip.  You will probably dock at Punta Langosta, the farthest north of the three cruise ship docks and physically at the south end of downtown San Miguel.  Chankanaab is about 20 minutes south.  Cabs are lined up both at piers and at the park so easy to get.

There are also a couple of All Inclusive clubs.  Playa Mia has a great kids water play area (pirate themed) and pool as well as the beach.  Slides may be too big for her.  Again, can be booked either directly or through the ship.  Playa Mia is about 5 minutes south of Chankanaab.  Again, recommend booking direct.

Check the Cozumel board for more ideas.  Would NOT recommend tours on mainland unless you book through the ship.  Long commutes and channel crossing can be rough.

You could also choose to either stay on the ship or get off and visit the shopping center right at the port.  There is usually a man with a burro in there posing for photos, etc.  I agree that I would not do a long excursion with a child that age.  Also, the kid programming will continue while the ship is in port, so if you choose to stay on board there is plenty to do.
