I got my letter this morning and I am opting for getting my money as I am battling thyroid cancer right now.  Even though I expect to kick this as it's one of the most curable cancers to beat it's a long process which lowers your immune system so going to be quite a while before I feel safe.

What I don't understand is why we have to wait a couple of weeks to fill out the form?  If they don't have time to process mine now because others are in front of me fine... but why can't I fill it out now?  Do they think in two weeks I will change my mind or are they just trying to hang onto my money for a little longer?

I love NCL and will cruise with them in the future but...

I wish you the best of luck with your cancer treatment.....and I sincerely hope that you will be on another NCL cruise soon (as in lets get this CoVID issue behind us)!

I agree with you regarding the delay in filling out the paperwork.  Does having the additional week or two to process paperwork mean that much?  Although it does add a week or two to the time for them to have to refund!  On the flip side, waiting until a month before to cancel cruises does give you additional time for your year to be up to rebook....;)

My TA said that we can request a refund on taxes and fees. She also said that the only portion that gets the 125% FCC is the base fare. If that is the case, then I can't see letting NCL hang on to the additional funds. If I am not getting the extra 25%, then I would rather have that money back!

However, my TA has also said that FCC can't be applied to the service charge or travel insurance and I have seen others post official looking items that state that they can be used for those items. I'm not confident that my TA really knows all of the ins and outs of the FCC. Anyone else have varying info from their TA?

ill be honest, im not feeling that good about NCL. though it may happen , but i feel Carnival has a good plan for august.

I'm with you there, especially when del Rio said he's looking at late 3rd quarter at the earliest. I still remain hopeful (though I haven't purchased a plane ticket yet). I also have a September cruise on Carnival, October on NCL, and December on RCL. Hopefully 1 of those will sail! I've given up trying to guess but I will root for all the optimists 😄

You are all about to be disappointed Carnival will announce August can not proceed as planned. Probably in about two weeks.

And by the way Seaman 11 you forget you booked an NCL cruise in May. You thought May was good say what you like you are at best fanciful

I'm not going to be that disappointed. Until I see emails about the CDC lifting the no sail order and cruise lines publicly announcing approved health and safety plans and approved itineraries, and getting their crew back in service and trained, I don't expect any of my booked cruises will happen. But the money has been allocated and the vacation time approved. So I remain hopeful.

Why would you think they would cancel august in may or early june?   Things in texas and florida are already opening.    And may i said wss 20 percent chance but happy to take the 25% extra fcc.

The no sail expires in july.  So would not need to be lifted.  Only issue would be if they extend it. But unless a set back. Things are opening up.

Unless things have changed since the first round of cancellations (my cancelled cruise was April 8), you should get 125% of your base fare, port taxes/fees, prepaid service charges, and gratuities on free-at-sea perks.  I've seen reports of getting the bonus on prepaid excursions, but I didn't have any of those, so I don't have personal experience with that.

As far as what the FCC can be used for, this is straight from the FAQs on the suspended sailings page at ncl.com (https://www.ncl.com/suspended-sailings😞

What can the FCC be used for?

Any bonus FCC amount is applied only to the voyage fare. The original, full value FCC can be applied and used for the following:

  • Voyage Fare
  • NCFs
  • Government Fees and Taxes
  • Pre-paid service charges
  • Beverage or dining gratuities (if part of the Free At Sea promotion selection)
  • Air purchased through Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Hotel purchased through Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Cruise tours purchased through Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Pre-booked and pre-paid shore excursions
  • Transfers
  • Essentials, Booksafe Standard or Platinum Travel Protection insurance (if purchased on the original suspended reservation)
Is there anything the FCC cannot be used for?

The FCC cannot be applied or used for the following:

  • Amenities
  • Dining/beverage packages that are not part of the Free At Sea program
  • Internet packages that are not part of the Free At Sea program
  • Shore excursions booked while onboard
  • Onboard credit
  • Water/soda packages
  • Bottles of wine
  • Bon voyage gifts and celebration packages
  • Photo packages

I assume that means they will apply the portion you paid, first to any new reservations. (?) which would make it harder to utilize unless you go with a more expensive cruise. Just assuming here..... does anyone actually know?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking - the 25% bonus gets applied first (to base fare).  then the 100% FCC gets applied - any left over FCC can be applied to another cruise, or (as stated in the FAQ) used to prepay for excursions and such.  Does that answer your question?

I decided to file a dispute with my cc company.  They will have the money back in my account pithing 10 days.  NCL said at least 120 days and cant even file paper work until June 8th.  The incentives were nice but in this time of uncertainty I would rather have my money.  Good luck to all who have to cancel.

I was able to pick and choose how I allocated my FCC and whether it came from the 100% or the 25% portion once I waited for the credits to hit my account. I spread those amounts across 4 cruises. I paid 2 in full and put deposits on 2. The only thing I wasn't able to do was use the 25% portion to pay a deposit but I could use money from the 100% portion.

Yes, that explains it clearly for me. Thank you!

And to NCL I ask, how were you in good conscience selling first week of July cruises up until about a week ago?   Oh wait.  I guess it was not in good conscience...but only to get an interest free 90 day loan from your unsuspecting customers, you being totally aware that they would  not be sailing.    I see you are still selling August 4th cruises.  Doing it again???

Well said.
Agreed!

they easily will collect your money. But they can’t continue with these sailing based on the liabilities involved.
Also instead of pushing this generic emails with fluff to excuse them from postponing their sailings... they need to update their website to show what they are doing to ensure they are not going to be hosting a Petri dish of infections.

I read that if you file a dispute with the cc company that they will ban you from booking with them for life and I hope that's not the case for your sake.  You must have gotten a different letter than me as mine said: Those guests can request a refund of the fare paid to be reimbursed to the original form of payment within 90 days after completing the request form.

That's not true.  It's one of those myths that gets perpetuated on forums such as this.

There you go again - you have been saying for months "things are opening up  what things NOT cruises. You fail on every occasion to take account of reality. Finally you have gone from excitingly announcing NCL new plan (which was only NCL shareholders meeting)  to having doubts in less than a week

You continue to hedge you bets with words like "may", 20% ," I have a good feeling"  Unlike others who live in the real world you continue to try and justify why you MAY be right. The CDC order will be extended and NCL have for once taken a proactive approach. Why would they cancel if they thought they could sail?  You  have ben saying things "opening up" for over a month now - not cruises and you analogy to Casinos is land based is  so irrelevant.

I have told you NCL will not be sailing but you ignored it with your its 100 days out or they have a new plan. They will not sail before late August early September.

Not once have you answered my question how they are going to crew the ships - you are not in the industry and fail to understand how it works and the logistics.

oh and you 25% FCC might find useless as NCL prices have increased and incentives lowered
