Stock Credit

I’ve applied for my stock credit for my December 2021 cruise & I’m told that I’m too early.  Interesting as I’m more familiar with Princess where I can apply anytime with no problem & they’re both owned by the same corporation.

They shouldn't be approving it for cruises after July 31, 2021 for any of their cruise lines. That said I have had them approve an August one when the benefit expired in July. I don't know if it depends on who processes your form or if it was just because mine was so close. This is from the website:

 

"The benefit is applicable on sailings through July 31, 2021 aboard the brands listed below. Certain restrictions apply. Applications to receive these benefits should be made at least three weeks prior to cruise departure date."

That’s all they have in common, Carnival owns both. Carnival renews the program once a year. This year was around June. My rule is sending a request about three months prior to my cruise.

I have a cruise in December of next year on Princess to Hawaii & I already have the stock credit.  That’s why I think that it’s interesting as both cruise lines are owned by the same Corporation but Princess doesn’t follow the Corporation policy. That’s why I applied but was turned down for my request on my Carnival Cruise.
 

I’ve enclosed my credit for my December cruise. With Princess it doesn’t matter who process your form as I’ve never had any problems applying as soon as I made my booking & receiving my credit usually the same day.

They are part of the same corporation, but our different divisions with some different policies.

 

Princess used to allow you to book excursions before boarding and not have the charge posted to your credit card until you were onboard. It was a unique policy by them, and only them among the Carnival brands. When they stopped this, there were many protests from Princess' passengers. They compromised by allowing you to use OBC before boarding for excursions (nothing else) as a way to appease those protesting. The only real way to do this was to allow much more time before the cruise to use the OBC in this way.

Seems they would want you to own the stock close to the time you sail. Makes sense to me that they would want to see it closer to the cruise date.

I print out a copy of my statement and write my name, ship, sailing date, and booking number on it and email it to guestadmin@carnival.com. The instructions on the below link say to fax or mail. I have always had success with email. I just emailed some a week ago and haven't heard back yet so maybe I'll have to fax this time.

17 Jul 20 Mailed proof of stock ownership

4 Aug 20 Received confirmation email from CCL (~ 2 1/2 weeks)

 

I do have a question about what the OBC can be used for and how it would be itemized since money is fungible. I have a promotional OBC in addition to the CCL OBC.  According to the T&C, the CCL OBC cannot be used for gratuities.

 

This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino
credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account.

 

However it qualifies this as "charged to you onboard account" so these gratuities may be different than the gratuities which Carnival charges each passenger (I generally do not pre-pay these gratuities).

 

Just curious if the CCL OBC could be used for the per-passenger gratuities at the end of the cruise.

I've heard it can be despite what the website says. I just make sure I spend at least $100 onboard outside of the gratuities to ensure I don't lose it. I pretty much always have more OBC and end up spending some on specialty dining and excursions anyway....So people say you can. The website says you can't so I'd be prepared to lose it if that's the only onboard expense you have.

Doesn’t your OBC appear as a credit on your account so this credit would also effect your gratuities?

Update to my post I received confirmation today that the OBC was added to my bookings so the email method does still work.

Their timing is getting better, I submitted for my Jan 2021 cruise this morning, had the OBC listed in my documents within an hour.  I hope this means they are gearing up for a restart!
