Great day out to Alcatraz.  We had a week in San Fran and did the Alcatraz bit.

This was one of my favourite places for a day outing when I was a child.

 

It is within 40km of a cruise port.

It was a lovely place for a day outing back in the 1950s, and it hasn't changed much since. The old general store where we used get icecreams at the end the day is still there and doesn't look much different after 50 odd years. It was a great place for family picnics, a surf beach plus a river mouth which was a safe place for young kids like me to play. We always parked up top in the domain. My dad tried to teach my mum to drive there once but gave up when she backed into a gorse bush.
