Don't know about the region but the upper part of the Rhine, from Basel and down a fair distance, does actually have locks for river river traffic to pass through.

If so have been there on a river cruise some years ago.

From memory a wine tasting was included as well as a visit to a musical museum.

Correct. We were on a river cruise and overnighted there so were able to have a more relaxed time exploring the town. We'd departed from Basel and the overnight stop meant we went through the Rhine Gorge in daylight. It was a great trip.

We only had the one day - the little 'train' from the river up to the town centre, a visit to the museum (made up of mechanical instruments) and a wine tasting. I remember the wines were all incredibly sweet, even though they were classed as dry by the hosts. 

It was the clue about being 'rude' that set me on the right track though I had thought at the beginning it might have been one of the other towns along the river. 

Guess I have to find another photo for the quiz.

Many cruisers on this board will have been here I am sure. It's a standard shore excursion.😃
