Mardi Gras - Have You Booked It?

I booked the Mardi Gras for this coming April after my last three cancellations on other ships.  I think exploring a new ship will be a fun way to spend my first cruise after reaching platinum.  I'm just ready for something new.  My favorite class so far has been the dream class, but I like to mix it up for different experiences sometimes.  I am booked in a balcony cabin on the lido deck.

I booked the “sailabration” sailing for March ‘22. I wanted to sail one of the  special cruises that week to celebrate Carnivals birthday as well as mine, so why not be on their newest ship!  We booked an inside because we don’t spend much time in the cabin (sleep/change clothes).  My last cruise was in Jan,  had a couple cancelled since, received email this am cancelling my Dec cruise. I’m starting to feel like the Mardi Gras will be my first time back on a ship.

Late last month I booked for February 2023. Got $100 OBC from Carnival's promotion, and should have another $100 of shareholder OBC. I've sailed the same week in 2017, 2019, and 2020 - and in 2023 Mardi Gras (the holiday) falls while I'm scheduled to be on Mardi Gras (the ship) so I doubt I'm going to get any better deals.

We were booked on Mardi Gras for end of January 2021. So happens that was the cruise before the now first cruise in February.

So we rebooked March 2022, same itinerary same cabin.  We now have no cruises until 2022 as our April 2021 RCCL cruise on the Odyssey  was canceled and rebooked for 2022.

I also had a Mardi Gras and Odyssey that was cancelled.  I moved them both to 2022.  Odyssey Jan 29, 2022 and Mardi Gras to 3/5/2022.  I already had two booked for 2021 and they were longer / more expensive trips.

We booked 4 cabins on MG for October, 2021, 2 OS and 2 Insides, all on Deck 9. As long as it doesn't get cancelled, we will go, no matter what restrictions, if any, are in effect! I personally have not been on a ship since October 2018, and am in withdrawal!!!!

Hi:

We booked Mardi Gras in 2019 for a October 31, 2020 sailing. That got cancelled because the ship builder was behind. There were 13 of us going in October.  We rebooked for August 2021 and added the school and college kids in.  So now there's 45 of us going, if we still get to go. Hope we do.

We are booked for May '21 and I absolutely cannot wait. It will be the biggest and newest ship I've ever sailed on. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes according to plan.

We are trying out one of the new junior balconies. The balcony is the same size as a regular balcony, but the room is a bit smaller. You have an extra dresser with drawers instead of a sofa.

I agree with most here.  What did they do to the Havana area on MG?  We had a HAV balcony on the Vista a couple years ago.  I wouldn’t pay extra for it now.  I was disappointed anyway because I didn’t like that you weren’t actually on a “balcony”.  It was cute though.

The area back there was so nice and quiet. 🥰  It was so quiet that there was never a bartender to be found. 😆

We booked MG for 9/11/21. We’re going to try an Excel Corner Suite this time. We usually go aft for the extended balcony, but I’d like to try the front. It WILL be quite a walk to some things though. 🙂

I hope everyone has a fabulous time. 😁

If you look at MG's deck plans, there's Havana Cabana on Deck 8, not sure if that is the same style of cabin you had on Vista.

Going to wait until all the newness and "awe" wear off then will book. Like to get the "real skinny" and reviews before booking ahead of time. Maybe after the initial "glitz and glamour" ceremonial journeys, the price may go down a bit.

I'm the original poster.  Not sure if it's user website error or the summer 2021 dates that I just happen to be looking at, but I can't seem to find an option to price out specific cabins.  All of my options are guaranteed type of cabins and Carnival will select my cabins at a later date.  Sorry, no.  That worked when I was in my early 20s and traveled with a bunch of single ladies, but not anymore.  My husband and I are very particular about wanting a deck with cabins above and below, with a preference of mid-ship, and away from the noisy elevators.   We aren't ready to put any money down, yet, anyway, so I guess we will worry about it after sailings actually start.

The website interface slightly changed recently - to select a specific cabin click on the "Pick Room" red box after finding the itinerary/date you like.  The other selections where you click on cabin type default to guarantee-type (though you can force it to go to select a cabin by clicking "Edit Trip Details").

If that doesn't work for you, let us know which dates you are trying, see if it is "just you" or everyone.

We booked an Excel Corner Suite on MG on February 5, 2020 for a cruise June, 2021. After discounts and the $500 cruise credit we had was applied,  we paid $7200 for 4 people. We were going to get the teens their own Excel cabin as well so we could all share the same perks, but we had the last one available so they wanted to be in our cabin to receive the perks that come with the Excel suites, rather than to have their own balcony room without the perks.  So it worked out and was a decent price I thought. It was the only available Excel suite at the time as everything else was already booked in that category.

We had two other cruises booked this year, one in June and one over Thanksgiving, but both were canceled. So we're hoping all will be good for next June.

We booked her in November, 2019.  We normally book balcony cabins on the Panorama deck.  On the Mardi Gras, the deck above the Lido deck is the Spa deck so we booked on the Lido Deck.

We booked February 20-27, 2021.  Now it turns out that it will be her third cruise if she does sail then.

We are both in our 70's and I have some medical issues.  We have decided that with all of the restrictions placed on cruising right now, we want to cancel the cruise.  We had a reduced deposit of $198 for the two of us.  After that, we put another $500 on the account.  If we cancel and don't re-book, we stand to lose $463.  I have no idea of how they came up with that figure but that's what our PVP told me.  We sure don't want to lose $463 but we also have no idea of when it will be safe for us to cruise again.

We enjoy cruising but not being able to just walk around at the ports, wearing a mask, very few slots in the casino open, and who knows at this point what else is going to be restricted, it just doesn't seem worth it to us..

At this point, we are just holding off until final payment to see what happens.

We booked our cruise for the Mardi Gras nearly a year ago, before the Corona pandemic hit the U.S. We're booked for Nov. 2021 for the week following Thanksgiving. It will be a pre-retirement celebration for me. My wife wanted to be on the ship to see it decorated for the holidays. We chose a cove balcony cabin, to be closer to the water, as well as the added privacy. This will be our 5th cove balcony. To the OP, and anyone else that hasn't quite decided about which cabin to choose, this video has some very good information, and may be helpful to you.

the video was great . we knew we wanted connecting bc our teens are getting older (will be 19 and 17) at time of sailing and sharing an interior or even a balcony for 4 of us is tight.  we got a sweet deal with two connecting spa rooms. I never stayed in a spa room so this will be cool- I hope.

lets hope we all sail soon.

I'm booked on Mardi Gras for 1/22/22. I'm excited for this ship because it of how different I think it will be compared to the rest of the fleet. I sailed on NCL's Escape this past January, and while I didn't love the overall vibe of NCL, the ship was beautiful. I'm thinking Mardi Gras will be similar to it in some ways. I'm looking forward to having 3 port stops on a 7 day cruise also. I cruise for the ports and not the ship but 4 days in a row does wear me out. We picked the Western Caribbean route this time. I was hoping for different itineraries for Mardi Gras, but I feel like I need a do over for January's cruise because we didn't love what we did in Roatan. We decided to go with a Havana interior cabin this time (first time for Havana and interior). I was hoping it would be the same layout as the Vista class ships but now see that it won't be. I'm a little disappointed about not having the pool but am sticking with this cabin since I like the idea of having a private, hopefully guaranteed, deck space to lay out on. The Lido and Serenity decks can be overly annoying when trying to find a decent place in the sun or shade. I was beginning to think I was getting burnt out on cruising, but with this pause in service and being booked on the newest ship over a year out, I am building up excitement to be able to cruise again. I can't wait to see videos and read reviews of her first sailings!

I booked a B2B cruise (Spa Suite) for Dec 2022.  I wanted to go to Disneyworld for a week prior to the cruise so I landed on the Mardi Gras.  I also looked at the Havana area and was disappointed with the layout which is why I decided to book a suite (bucket list).  I'm not super excited with the itineraries but am really looking forwards to Disney and seeing the ship.

This sound awesome, we are going on the Mardi Gras Dec. 2021 and thought about the same thing. Haven't been to Disney since 2009
