dogs4fun Posted January 7, 2021 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2021 Love Edinburgh - when I first traveled across the Atlantic (back in the late 80s), I spent the entire summer in the UK. Since my great grandfather emigrated from Edinburgh, I wanted to spend a fair amount of time visiting the area - loved the Fringe festival and was simply blown away by the Tattoo. I adored the city & its people & and have since returned to Scotland multiple times. Edinburgh still remains among my favorite cities in the world! For the dedicated Americanophile, I would recommend visiting the National Museum of Scotland where you can view the Edison phonograph & interesting A. G. Bell factoids. You can also the family home of Scottish born Alexander Graham Bell on South Charlotte Street in Edinburgh.
familycruzer Posted February 4, 2021 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2021 Can you give me an idea of how to make it into Edinburgh from where NCL docks? Where would you suggest for a fresh seafood meal?

If NCK docks at Nehaven it's a tender port you can then get a bus 20 to 30 minutes direct into the city center from there, you can also get a taxi or Uber. That said most ships do lay on shuttles. As for sea food there is in fact two excellent sea food restaurants right at the harbour where the tenders are. They are Loch Fyne Fish and The Fish Market both excellent but at a push I would say Loch Fyne.

Thanks glad it was of use, August is a great month to visit as its festival month its going to be a quieter this year and as there is no Tattoo its off till 2022 but the Fringe Festival is on in a scaled-down version so city will still have a good buzz to it. Hope you enjoy your visit.

There is a very good tour company based in Edinburgh that covers tours across the country being local I am happy to recommend them as I know they are very popular. They are a company called Rabbies Tours they can be found on Google. However here is a link to there site. https://www.rabbies.com/en
carolkatsc Posted May 31, 2021 #15 Share Posted May 31, 2021 I'd like to second the recommendation for Rabbies Tours. We took a day trip with them from Edinburgh to the Highlands and it was wonderful.
milolii Posted June 4, 2021 #16 Share Posted June 4, 2021 Thank you both. I did contact Rabbies and they are very helpful. Now hopefully we can come in August.

Made the experience really amazing and I'm not so keen on tours, or maybe a typical tour. This was special because Scotland is special and that's what you get. I cannot remember the name of the tour company other than they were located about half way from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood House on the Royal Mile. The Tour we took was to Blair Castle in Athol, which had stops before and after the castle, and was very interesting. I still have a bit left of the BlairAthol Scotch Whiskey from my stop at their distillery in Pitlochry.

I think that you might mean Mercat Tours, which are located at the mercat cross on the Royal Mile.

I would agree from the description given it would be Mercat Tours they have a base there. They specialise in walking tours and tours of Edinburgh but do offer others. milolii Posted June 22, 2021 #21 Share Posted June 22, 2021 Thanks everyone, we decided to not visit this summer as things remain uncertain. Will keep the recommendations for 2022.

I did an 8 day land tour with them of Orkney, Skye and the Far North.

Noted there a new one on me but highlights there are a few companies offering tours and plenty of choice to suit most requirements.
