It's one of those ports I wont bother getting off ship if I have a stop there in future. When stopping in Colon Panama you need to take a ship sponsored tour that goes into Panama City. We really enjoyed the old town of Panama City as well as seeing the new modern area. We never take ship tours but I would not chance doing one with a private guide as it is quite far away and if something happens you would not be protected for the ship waiting for you to get back. The port of Colon is really sketchy.
geoff2802 Posted January 13, 2021 #27 Share Posted January 13, 2021 Fifteen cruises from Barbados on Grandeur over the period Dec 2021 to Apr 2022 are now listed on Royal’s website. Pricing is reasonable and cabin availability is showing. Some very nice itineraries too.

I will be all over this itinerary when (if) cruising comes back. I fully expect this to be a placeholder for a different ship as I feel now more than ever that all Vision Class ships will be gone from the RCG fleet post Covid. Wonder if Radiance Class can fit/dock/etc into all of these ports?

I don't have the same hope you do. I'm very certain in my own mind re Vision Class... I've got a few things pretty close to right during this pandemic and I don't think I'll be far off regarding ships when this is all said and done in 2022

No one can say with 100% certainty that 100% for sure this sailing will go as planned, even in 2022, and especially with Grandeur. No one can give you a 100% guarantee. No one can say anything until we actually see people get on ships and take 7 day sailings. When you see that, then we can all start actually believing again and making plans for sailings like this itinerary.

keywest1 Posted January 13, 2021 #37 Share Posted January 13, 2021 First cruises I've been truly excited about in months. We are booked on Quantum to Alaska end of August, but I really don't think that will happen. Still not booking yet, but my fingers are getting itchy 😁

njkruzer Posted January 13, 2021 #44 Share Posted January 13, 2021 These cruises remind me of our Legend cruise out of the Dominican Republic. No US ports so it attracted some passengers who couldn't get a US visa. Also some Dominicans booked 4 to a cheap cabin and then disembarked at another port, using the ship for transportation. For us, Santiago was not a pleasant port. Going through security at the airport when flying out was scary when they started going through my jewelry, etc. Grabbed it back, took my stuff and continued to gate without permission. My dh had gone through first and then realized I wasn't behind him. He then came back. No one stopped me after that but it was scary. I know Barbados is not Santiago but I still see issues. Doesn't mean I won't consider it. Airfare seems high and currently out of Nashville shows 18-21 hr flts!
RFerrington Posted January 13, 2021 Author #45 Share Posted January 13, 2021 I just booked the Feb 20 14 night cruise in a 2 BR Grand Suite (aft). So very happy with this booking ! They offered a resident discount, a balcony discount and a casino discount. I think it was a GREAT price for a 14 night 2 BR GS.
suzyluvs2cruise Posted January 13, 2021 #46 Share Posted January 13, 2021 For fun I looked at the Feb 20 14 nt sailing. Cabin price for a JS was $3561.42 for NRD. If you wanted a Refundable deposit it was $2101 more. No thanks....
smokeybandit Posted January 13, 2021 #47 Share Posted January 13, 2021 One problem with Barbados is that it's a PITA to get to if you're not already in the eastern have of the USA.

Even if you ARE in the eastern half of the US ! There is only 1 non-stop flight out of Miami on AA. The rest of the flights go through Charlotte and are 20+ hours ! So you know the flights are going to fill up FAST. I will book my air the same day the flights go on the market. Who knows....maybe by next year they will increase the capacity. Pratique Posted January 13, 2021 #50 Share Posted January 13, 2021 Next winter is far off and things could and hopefully will change. Currently Barbados requires 3-7 day confinement at the hotel depending on when test results are available. Best case they will allow arriving passengers to be taken directly from the airport or hotel to the ship. But no way to enjoy the island before or after the cruise. And that's just for Barbados.
